How do I treat aggressive liposuction burns? (Photo)

Question

I'm 14 days post op. I had a tummy tuck, liposuction, and bbl performed in the Dominican Republic. While I was there I under went 20 hours of hyperbaric oxygen therapy to treat my wounds. I've been using a gel ointment and biafine cream. What's my prognosis?

Thank you for sharing your question and photographs and I am sorry to see your significant liposuction burns.  I would strongly recommend reaching out to a local plastic surgeon who would be willing to see you in consultation to help manage your injuries.  Treatment will take months to fully resolve and I would start with application of a thick ointment and non adherent dressings to your wounds, allowing your skin time to declare itself fully.

From the photos, these appear to be somewhat serious. I strongly recommend seeking local medical attention from a Plastic surgeon or Wound Center. I would dress these with a silver alginate dressing, which you could obtain at a Wound center. You might end up requiring wound excision and closure, or even skin grafting. There is a strong chance that you will experience loss of your natural skin color in the area of the burns. Look out for signs of infection: red/hot/swollen/worsening pain. Good luck to you.

I am sorry to hear of your postoperative problems after cosmetic surgery.  Burn injuries may require weeks of wound care and may require operative debridement (surgical removal of dead tissue).  There are also ongoing risks of significant infection.You should strongly consider consulting with a board certified Plastic and Reconstructive surgeon to manage your wounds.  Alternatively, you could consult with a local wound care specialist.  Good luck with your recovery!
