I made an appointment with a very distinguished surgeon. The consult was horrible. He basically said I was too fat and ugly and that a surgeon is going to take advantage of me, end of consult. I'm 49 and frumpy. But that's why I'm seeking surgery. How can I be be taken seriously while I'm at ground zero. Detail: I've just ended long term adderall. It's going better than I thought it would. I also have Hashinotos. Next I address the weight with 40 lbs goal. Please advise.

Answer: Aging face I'm sorry you had a bad experience. An in-depth, open discussion with a surgeon regarding goals is the key. Once items are identified, an appropriate treatment plan can be devised as a team. There should be zero judgement, and again, I'm sorry you went through a really bad experience.

Answer: Don't let one surgeon define how you see yourself I'm sorry to hear about how your consult went. I think you look young for your age with full lips and few wrinkles. When surgeons do not recommend surgery, it's often because they do not think the procedures they offer will benefit your specific anatomy and concerns. That doesn't mean a different surgeon wouldn't have other procedures or devices. For example, I don't think you are a candidate for a facelift, but filler to the cheekbones, Ultherapy skin tightening under the neck, and resurfacing laser may give you the boost you are looking for. I encourage you to see another surgeon. Distinguished is good, but a surgeon who communicates well with you is an even better fit. I do recommend losing weight before any surgery. Weight loss will change your tissues, and you don't want to undo the effects of any surgery with significant weight loss. Luckily, resurfacing lasers are not affected by this change, so those are ok to consider at any time.
