Hello Dr's I am soon to be undertaking a rhinoplasty and Lipo but the Dr I am using recently suffered a fatality where a lady died due to multiple organ failure while having multiple procedures. He has done many in the past with amazing results and this is his first death I really trust my DR but I think human nature is setting in and I'm getting increasingly nervous as surgery date approaches. Pls help!
Answer: Are rhinoplasties safe? Hello and thank you for your question. Feeling nervous before surgery is very natural and normal. The risk with most cosmetic surgeries involves the administration of general anesthesia. I recommend undergoing surgery in a hospital setting with multiple anesthesiologists available and a full complement of experienced hospital staff and ancillary personnel.Good luck with your surgery.Mark K Markarian, MD, MSPHHarvard-trained Aesthetic Plastic Surgeon

Answer: Rhinoplasty is a safe procedure. Rhinoplasty done in the hands of a qualified plastic surgeon, in an accredited facility is very safe. Your example is one of multiple procedures done at once and it is known that by combining multiple procedures, that the risk of problems increases. As a solitary operation, having a rhinoplasty is safer than driving to have a rhinoplasty.

Answer: Avoiding Potential Serious Complications During Rhinoplasty The 4 most important things that you should be aware of in order to have the least likely occurrence of a serious problem coming up during an operation would be the following: 1. Using a hospital based ambulatory surgical facility that has a good reputation in your area. 2. Having an excellent team of anesthesiologist who's abilities are well known to the surgeon. 3. Having an adequate and detailed preoperative medical clearance carried out in a timely way prior to the surgery. 4. If you do have any significant pre-existing medical conditions they should be treated if necessary and if necessary the surgery could be delayed or cancelled until those medical problems are adequately resolved so that they would now affect the outcome of your surgery. Such issues include checking for thyroid disease, bleeding tendencies and allergies to anesthesia and medications.
