Dear Giamason, This is typically reviewed with the patient during their preoperative appointment so that you can shop and prepare your post operative food ahead of time. With that said, it is important to limit your salt intake after surgery so try and avoid packaged foods or pre-prepared meals. I tell my patients that most of the food on the outer portion of the grocery store is the best place to start. if you avoid going down the aisles you are most likely getting fresh food that is not prepared. I also prefer my patients stay away from milk and some dairy products as often times this may ad congestion for some patients. You do not need to stay on a soft diet after the first few days you will just need to make your portions small bite sizes so you do not have to open your mouth wide like when eating a cheeseburger. Often times you may experience some constipation after surgery so it is important to eat food that will help with your bowel movements. Fresh bran products, fresh steamed vegetables and fruits. Fruits that are helpful with swelling and bruising are papaya and pineapple. I hope this is helpful. You may call your surgeons office and they can give you a list of items to eat for the coming week. Chipotle may need to wait a few weeks. Best regards, Michael V. Elam, M.D.
