How long do fillers really last?

Hello, and thank you for the question. In general, filler will last for an average of 6-8 months (sometimes longer depending on the area treated). You were likely experiencing the effect of swelling in the days following your treatment. A touch-up may be necessary if you feel that you would benefit from more volume in the area. There are a lot of variables when it comes to "how long" different Dermal Fillers will last. Every individual is different. Juvederm might last longer on one person than another. Generally Dermal filler can last anywhere from 3-9 months. The first time we say 3-6 months just so there is no disappointment. But the more you top up dermal filler the longer it lasts.

Considering there is increased movement around the mouth, I tell my patients to expect a 6-month result with lip filler, at which time a touch up may be necessary in order to maintain results. It is possible that your injector wanted to start with a conservative amount of filler to avoid overfilling. While I agree with this approach, often times it is necessary to add more filler at follow up to see visible results. I recommend following up with your injector to discuss your concerns and the potentially add more filler. Best of luck.
