Can a gummy smile treatment be fixed?

Asked By:AnonymousANSWERS (1)

I am sorry you are not happy with your result.  Here is more info for you as go forward in deciding on future treatments.

As a dermatologist, I can tell you that different anatomy in each patient make me decide on whether I combine Botox (how much and exact placement) with deciding to add fillers to balance thin lips that pull up in gummy smiles. Together they two can create a very natural contour and very sexy appearance - if done correctly.

The key is to make sure you communicate what you are trying to achieve and ask specific questions from the doctor as the risks for that treatment.

I do many gummy smiles and they can be successfully treated with Botox/Dysport when performed by expert injectors. Injection of a low dose into precise points on the upper lip to reduce the “gum” showing without affecting any other motion. I have my patients smile several times, and animate their face as they are talking to me during the consultation. Where exactly I place it (and how much product) depends on the anatomy of the patient.

Factors to consider include how thin/thick the upper lip is (and if you use fillers on the upper lip you need to consider balancing the lower lip to avoid the "duck lip" tragedy!). How much the lips are pulled up and how many millimeters of gum are exposed. Any asymmetries during movement or at rest will also have to be taken into account.

I think the key is the consult to show you in the mirror what to expect. In this case Botox/Dysport may lower the upper lip so that you are not be able to show the gum line when you smile.  Because there is some risk of lowering too much, (which could affecting your singing or playing of a wind instrument, for example), using low doses and making sure that you receive precise injections by a highly qualified and certified professional are very important!

Best of luck!

I have a gummy smile. How long do I need to notice any change?

As a woman I totally understand the importance of well contoured lips and smooth skin!

Botox can take up to 2 weeks for full effect. Fillers on the other hand are immediate in their effect but can temporarily get "swollen" and go back down to normal volume!

The key is to make sure you communicate what you are trying to achieve and ask specific questions from the doctor as the risks for that treatment.

How Much Does Botox Cost for Gummy Smile?

Asked By:AnonymousANSWERS (1)

As a woman I totally understand the importance of well contoured lips and smooth skin!

As a dermatologist, I can tell you that "around the mouth" can include different injection methods to achieve different results. Some injections can decrease wrinkles around the mouth (smoker lines), treat gummy smile, downward angles of the mouth and so on.

The key is to make sure you communicate what you are trying to achieve and ask specific questions from the doctor as the risks for that treatment.

If you use both Botox and fillers obviously a bigger cost than Botox alone.

Best of luck!

Will botox around the mouth interfere with eating? Or kissing?

Gummy smile should not change your ability to suck or kiss! The injections to fix the lip wrinkles can make it hard to suck or kiss. Please note that fixing gummy smile can change your smile however in very subtle ways.

Will V Beam Help with Acne?

Asked By:AnonymousANSWERS (1)

It is a costly way to treat acne for it does not cure acne but does help clear it. If you are inclined to try it, try monthly vbeam sessions which help with acne and well as the red scarring left behind.

I love it for acne scars that are red!

Here is some info on the laser.

The Vbeam Laser produces bursts of light that selectively destroy the blood vessels anywhere on the body.

Pulsed dye laser treatment is so safe that it has been used successfully for the treatment of port wine stains in infants and young children. The Vbeam skin laser can also be used to treat rosacea, stretch marks, warts and keloids, or even tiny spider veins on the legs or face.

After applying numbing cream, the laser light is applied to the patient’s skin. Vbeam skin laser treatment is relatively painless and does not require a long healing time. The most common reaction patients experience include just a few hours of mild redness.

Treatment with the Vbeam may consist of multiple treatments, depending upon the condition and needs of the patient’s body. For facial veins, one treatment may be sufficient for clearance (that said, additional treatments are not uncommon). These treatments occur on an average of every 4 weeks depending on the area and type of treatment.

Botox in my forehead & around eyes - genius injector & gem of a person

I received botox in my forehead and around my eyes and filler in my cheeks, lips, chin, and hands. This was my first time getting filler in my hands and I love it. I think this is only the second or third time getting filler (in my cheeks / lips / chin) that it actually looked NATURAL. In fact, I got on a flight the next day and no one could tell that I got anything "done". I absolutely love how I look. Tanya is not only a genius injector, she is an absolute gem of a person. Her whole staff is patient, kind, and knowledgeable. They let me relax with ice packs on the injector site while most doctors would have scurried the patient out the door. Highly recommend Tanya and her entire staff.

I would highly recommend Dr Kormeili

I can't say enough good things about Dr Kormeili and her staff. Everyone is so friendly, caring and professional. First, they went out of their way to accommodate my schedule. I came in for one specific matter but because Dr Kormeili took her time during the consultation to answer all my questions, she ended up fixing others problems that I had. She really cares and I'm very grateful. I would highly recommend Dr Kormeili. She's really the BEST.

Grateful Man - Santa Monica, CA

I loved my coolsculpting results. I went down two belt sizes! I've always been a big athletic dude and that little extra fat was not a welcome addition. I have tried several things before and no matter how much I exercised I just couldn't get rid of it . I will warn you, it is a little tingly for a few hours after, kind of like when your foot falls asleep then wakes back up. Thank you Dr Kormeili.
