Does novocaine interfere with a Juvederm injection for the nasolabial folds on my face?

Novacaine won't interfere with your Juvederm. I'm not sure when you had your Juvederm injections, but usually it's advisable to avoid firm pressure on the treated area for the first few days unless it is intentional. You may have some swelling and tenderness that could make it uncomfortable to open your mouth wide. Other than that, opening your mouth won't hurt the product. It is fine to have your dental work. Thank you for your question. No, Novocain will not interfere with your Juvederm. You do not mention when you had your Juvederm treatment, but it is best to avoid pressure on the treated area for a few days after treatment. It is okay to have dental work. 

I highly recommend that a person doesn't have dental work after filler for at least 2 weeks. It is not due to the novacaine or dental procedure interfering with the filler. The reason is mainly because during some dental procedures, there is a bactermia (bacteria enter the blood stream). It is possible that some of the bacteria settle in the newly placed filler and cause infection. If is more likely to happen after newly injected filler because there is inflammation around the injection sites which leads to increased blood flow. After the initial 2-3 weeks, dental work has minimal risk to the filler.

Assuming your Juvederm is already placed and the time frame for resolution of swelling and or bruising (1-2 weeks) has passed (fairly usual recommendation) then dental work and novacaine will not interfere with this. Regarding novacaine as you know this is a common local anesthetic of which Juvederm uses a "cousin" of novacaine called lidocaine mixed into the product to make the injections less uncomfortable. Fear not. 

Thank you for your excellent question.  I recommend that patients avoid dental work until normal postprocedure swelling and bruising, if present, has resolved because the area around the mouth may be more sensitive.  Novacaine will not negatively affect your results.  Hope this helps and best wishes!
