Can I still get a mommy makeover if I have hyperthyroidism?

Is possible to do surgery if you have Hyperthyroidism. The most important is to be under good control with your medications. Having the thyroid hormones in normal levels will prevent complications during and after the surgical procedure.

With every patient, it is important to make sure your surgeon is considering your whole health picture. In your case, it would be important to make sure your hyperthyroidism is appropriately treated and controlled. A discussion with between your endocrinologist, anesthesiologist and surgeon is important to perform a safe surgery. Also, with hyperthryoidism, some people experience weight loss, so reaching a stable weight is also important.

Hi! Yes, I do perform MMO on hyperthyroid patients. You would have to have it under control, normal thyroid levels, on medication and have a preoperative endocrine evaluation and clearance to make sure everything is optimized prior to undergoing general anesthesia. Hope this helps!

Hyperthyroidism would not preclude you from having a MMO...but it has to be both stable and managed. I'd suggest meeting with your PCP and/or endocrinologist (whomever is managing the disorder) to discuss the short and long term management strategies...once your hyperthyroidism is stable and managed, have that provider write a summary letter or letter of clearance. If you show up to your plastic surgery appointment with that letter, it helps your surgeon to understand the status of your condition.
