Question on fainting 1 week after breast augmentation?

Question

I am 8 days post op, and am loving my new boobs! I do have a question though....today was my first day after surgery taking a full shower and I fainted. Luckily my husband was there to catch me. Nothing was hurt, and I feel fine now. But, does this affect the overall result? Will my implants move? They don't feel any different than before my shower. Any feedback is appreciated!!!!!!

It sounds as though you had a vasovagal response which can be triggered by heat, stress, or standing for long periods of time. The best advice to give you is to follow up with your surgeon and communicate the occurrence directly to him for evaluation and expert advice moving forward. Until then, I would continue to follow all of your post-operative care instructions, avoid hot showers, and make sure you are eating regularly and getting plenty of fluids.

It sounds like you probably had what is called vasovagal syncope, which is fainting due to a temporary drop in heart rate and blood pressure due to stress or some upsetting sight or sensation. It's what commonly happens to people that faint when having their blood drawn. People get lightheaded, sweaty, nauseated and sometimes pass out. Usually people feel fine 5-10 minutes later. If your breasts look and feel the same as they did before you fainted, you should likely be fine, but it Is best to have your surgeon check you to make sure everything is progressing normally and to rule out other causes of fainting. If you ever feel faint again, make sure you sit or lie down so that if you do pass out completely you won't fall and hit your head.

Breast implants may "move" if activity restrictions are not followed strictly during the post-operative healing process. Patients after breast augmentation that involuntary may have have done any activity that could jeopardize the healing of their breast implant augmentation surgery should follow up in consultation with their plastic surgeon.
