Dear JRB. I have been in practice for 30 years and performed tummy tuck on well over 1000 patients. Only one patient (male) had skin tightening only, tummy tuck. The rest of my patients had skin and muscle tightening tummy tuck surgery, because it is extremely rare to see patients after child delivery or significant weight loss, that the skin alone is loose without the abdominal muscles as well. They almost always go hand in hand. One of the biggest benefits of the muscles tightening is weight loss , since you can eat as much as before surgery and your appetite is significantly reduced. You have to realize that not all results are the same, because experience, skills and aesthetic eye, are critical for good outcome. So, do your due diligence carefully and choose your surgeon wisely, to avoid bad result and need for corrective surgery , which doubles the cost and recovery time. Always, consult with experienced board certified plastic surgeons who operate in accredited surgery center for your safety. Most importantly, check the before and after pictures in the photo gallery, to make sure that they are numerous, consistent and attractive with flat stomach, tight and youthful looking skin, nice 'inni' belly button. improved body posture and low scar. Best of luck, Dr Widder
The tummy tuck without muscle repair is a quicker recovery and hurts less, however, if your muscles require to make you flat then you will achieve this result. Muscle repair is generally recommended if you have kids and the muscle weakness leads to a "belly bulge. Best wishes, Dr. ALDO :)
A true Tummy tuck or full abdominoplasty will remove extra skin and fat as well as tighten the rectus muscles which have been stretched from pregnancy or weight gain and loss. A skin only removal may be good for a quicker recovery due to very little post op pain. The patients I do this for often need to get back to work more quickly or they can't wait the 2 months to exercise fully which is required with muscle tightening. I hope this helps, Good luck!
Thanks for your question. In a standard tummy tuck there are two basic components. Skin tightening and Muscle repair. Particularly with childbearing the skin becomes loose and often does not shrink back. Tummy tuck cuts out this loose skin. With childbearing the abdominal wall stretches leading to a separation between the washboard (rectus) muscles of the abdomen. This Is called diastasis which is a separation although some confuse it for a hernia which it is not. Bringing the muscles back together (muscle repair) is also a common part of tummy tuck. Muscle repair in the appropriate slender candidate will flatten the abdominal wall.Unfortunately diet and exercise do not solve these problems. While it is always good to be at a healthy weight before surgery weight loss often makes loose skin looser and will not bring the muscles back together. One can choose to have a non muscle tightening tummy tuck. Your PS will help to guide you based on your goals, height weight and medical risk factors. I have included a tummy tuck link below which I hope will help.Best wishes.
The big difference will be in the WAIST line and FLAT ABDOMEN. If you do not have a muscle repair and your muscle is loose (with or without diastasis) most likely you will end up with a protruding abdomen and no waist. There are very very few female patients who do not need a muscle repair. The vast majority after pregnancies or/and significant weight loss or/and genetic protruding abdomen WILL need a MR. The majority of male patients do not need a muscle repair. Dr. Cardenas
Tummy tuck is designed to correct what is wrong with the tummy. When muscles are loose they are tightened during tummy tuck. When muscles are in good shape they are left alone.
Hi there. There is no difference between a full TT and a TT with muscle repair. The terms are synonymous. Good luckBest,#drburnett #realself100
Usually a standard tummy tuck includes a muscle repair. It is a rare case when I do not think a muscle repair is necessary. Best of luck.
Thank you for the question. Specific advice can only provide be provided to you after a complete history, physical examination, and a full communication of your goals. Some general thoughts however may be helpful to you: as you may know, the tummy tuck procedure typically involves plication of the abdominal wall muscle that have spread during pregnancy or weight gain/loss. IN MY OPINION, omitting this part of the procedure for the vast majority of patients who present for consultation will likely leave them with continued abdominal wall laxity and (again in my opinion) a less than optimal result. Best wishes.
Tummy tuck with muscle repair refers to correction of the loose space and widening of the muscles that many women experience after having children. In patients that have major weight loss where skin excess is the problem but the muscles are still strong and close together may not necessarily need muscle repair. The muscle repair is something that is commonly done and takes only a few extra minutes during surgery, but in many cases it is what creates the muscle tightness or discomfort some patient's report with tummy tuck.
