I am now 6 weeks post op symmastia repair. When am I allowed to start wearing normal sports bras? (Photo)

You appear to have a very good result.  Make sure to follow the post op instructions from your surgeon.  They will know what sutures were used and how long to maintain the current regimine.

Thank you for your question and photographs, and congratulations on your surgical results.  You have obtained a very nice outcome.  Depending on the type of symmastia repair performed by your surgeon, you will want to talk to them about your current bra restrictions, as your surgical results will need to mature before "stressing" them with conventional sports bras.  If additional tissue was used to correct the symmastia you would likely be okay to wear sports bras, but if only stitches were used, best to hold off to allow complete healing to take place.

Now don't mess it up- ask your surgeon about bras. I know that with my own patients, I have very strong opinions about what bras to wear when, based on how you look and how far you are out from surgery.

Every surgeon will have different recommendations following a symmastia repair.  This is partially dependent upon your surgeon's intraoperative findings.  If you have developed significant capsule formation in this area, then it is more likely that the repair will hold the sutures better and you may potentially require a specific bra for a shorter period of time.  I would discuss this with your plastic surgeon.  Rest assured that he or she wants you to have the best result possible.

Your plastic surgeon will be your best resource when it comes to returning to specific activities. He/she will know exactly what was done, how you are progressing, and exactly what type of activities you are returning to. Generally speaking, it will be important for you to return to activities in a very gradual/cautious fashion. "Listen to your body" as you do so. I ask my patients who have symmastia repair to wear their T- bra minimally for 2-3 months.Again, your plastic surgeon will be your best resource when it comes to relevant advice.
