I feel pain when I massage. Am I developing capsular contracture? (Photo)

Hi there and thank you for this great question. These symptoms you are experiencing are relatively normal for being this early post-op. These symptoms of pain, soreness and discomfort will likely resolve on their own over the next several weeks. When placing downward force on your breast implants, the implants will not move much and this is a good thing. If they are moving too much this means you are displacing he inframmamory fold. So, gentle pressure at the upper pole in the downward direction is helpful and may likely reduce the chances of developing capsular contracture at post-op day 8. It will be unusual to be developing capsular contracture so early. I would recommend seeing your plastic surgeon so that a complete evaluation of the breasts can be performed. Best of luck!

The on and off discomfort you are experiencing, shooting pains, muscle soreness and the immobility of your implants is normal after breast augmentation.  As your tissues heal and relax this will gradually subside, though it may take several months to fully resolve.  8 days after surgery is too early to develop a capsular contracture.  Follow up regularly with your plastic surgeon so your progress can be monitored.

Thank you for sharing your question and photograph.  At 8 days after surgery it is too early to have developed, or begun to develop, a capsular contracture.  Your breast skin and glandular tissue is quite swollen from surgery leading to the current firmness and lack of movement that you describe.  Allow your results time to mature over the next 3-4 months and you will see how with swelling resolution your implants will drop, round out the lower portion of your breasts and achieve a more natural and softer feel.  Hope this helps.

It is doubtful that you developed a capsular contracture after 8 days.  Your breasts can be sore for several weeks after surgery. If concerned, speak to your surgeon.

In my opinion you have appropriate swelling and pain after just a week old surgery. Incisional pain is normal at this point and the muscle pain is normal since your implants are under the muscle. This pain will take longer to resolve since there is constant muscle movement.Follow the advice of a board certified plastic surgeon. 

It is too early to have even formed a capsule around your implants.  All implants eventually form a capsule.  The goal  is to have that capsule as thin and soft as possible.  Make sure your implants are not textured if you are massaging.  You should not massage textured implants.  At 8 days your skin and muscle tightness will make is difficult to perform implant massage (implant displacement techniques).  Speak with your plastic surgeon to determine if you should begin massage this early and the correct technique for massage. Thank you for your question. Day 8 is too soon to start worrying about capsular contracture. Pain, muscle soreness, shooting pains and implants not moving much are all normal during your first 6-8 weeks of healing. The best of luck to you!
