Will my lips ever return to normal?

Question

I had 2ml juvederm injected into my lips in august 2016 there are no lumps or anything however they are far too big I didn't want to have them dissolved in case it caused lumps so I decided to let them dissolve naturally. So far they have decreased in size but are still to big. Please help is there a reason why it's taking so long? when will my lips return to normal?

Part of what makes Juvederm a great product for the lips is its ability to "bind" water, giving the lips a certain plumpness that mimics the youthful lip.  However, 2 ml of Juvederm is quite a lot of product at one time for the lips and the product can last quite long in some individuals. Dissolving the product is not an "all or none" proposition. You can titrate the dissolving agent to remove a little bit of product at a time until you are comfortable with your appearance. It will not result in lumpiness.

Thank you for sharing your recent experience with lip injections. The definitive way to reverse the effects of your lip filler is to dissolve it with an enzyme called hyaluronidase. Once the enzyme is injected, the existing filler will dissolve within 12-24 hours. I understand your concerns about lumpiness, however when injected by an experienced injector, this is not likely to occur. Without intervention, Juvederm in the lips can last between 6-9 months. If you prefer, you can let the filler dissolve over time and your lips will return to normal. Regardless of your preference, I recommend following up with your injector to discuss your concerns.

Fillers vary in the amount of time they remain in the skin but in general they will last between 6-12 months in the lips.  Your lips will return to their normal size as the filler gradually metabolizes.  They have remained full for 9 months so it is a matter of a little more time.  Best of luck!

The product is typically present for 6-12 months, but does metabolize gradually.  Your lips will return to their pre-injection state when the product is gone.  If you want to speed up that process your option is the hyaluronidase.

I would certainly suggest visiting your practitioner for a review and wouldn't avoid looking into hylase to treat and dissolve the filler, 2ml does sound like a lot but not unfixable.

Thank you for your question.  The longevity of fillers depends on a variety of factors, including the product used, the treatment area, the depth and placement of injections, and the amount of filler injected.  I usually expect Juvederm to last anywhere from 6-12 months in the lips.  The fact that you were injected with a higher volume of product may be causing it to last a little longer.That said, if injected properly, hyaluronidase should not cause any lumps.  I would recommend scheduling a consultation with a cosmetic dermatologist or plastic surgeon to discuss having your filler dissolved - there is no reason for you to have to live with filler you don't like!  Best of luck!

having two milliliters of a filler in the lips in one treatment is a bit too much in my opinion. You should not worry about lumps of any kind when treated with hyaluronidase A gentle approach by a professional should reduce the lips to your satisfaction. Good luck from New York City
