Received kybella treatment nov 22. Throat feels like it is swollen.

Hi there Hannah,Sorry your experience is more uncomfortable than you had hoped. Things do get better over time.Swelling that you can see and feel happens in all people undergoing Kybella injections in the sub mental area. The degree of swelling can't always be predicted but may be related to the amount of Kybella needed, the quality of the skin and whether or not a vessel was inadvertently punctured causing a local bruise.Though some amount of swelling or numbness can persist up to 6 months after your final treatment, they tend to subside week by week (you won't be feeling like this in January).Because you are expressing anxiety and have concerns about your swallowing and airway, I would reach out to your practitioner to be seen right away. They will want to hear from you.After you have clarified with your treatment team you could consider wearing a compression garment at night. Swelling and/or numbness can last a few months after your treatment. The swelling can make you more aware when you swallow. This can be improved with venus legacy and lymphatic massage. If you remain concerned, I recommend following up with your Dr. Best, Dr. Emer

Unfortunately, this can last a couple of months.  It is for this reason, you might consider finishing you neck work with a neck liposuction.  This is a very comfortable minimally invasive surgical procedure that can be done with just local anesthesia and can accomplish with a week of healing a result that could take 6 months of Kybella treatment to accomplish. 

Swelling in the neck region is usually mild, but universal after Kybella injection. Sometimes the swelling can give the sensation of difficulty swallowing. This is especially common if you have any pre-existing difficulty swallowing, and should be discussed at your pre-procedural evaluation

To ensure you are receiving the highest level of care, seek out a modernly trained, new-school dermatologic surgeon, oculoplastic surgeon, facial plastic surgeon or plastic surgeon who is board certified and fellowship trained in one of these "core four" cosmetic specialties.

Feeling as if it is difficult to swallow is a side effect of Kybella. It's due to the swelling and will improve as you heal and the swelling subsides. This can take a few weeks, however, so don't panic. It will get better.

situation. Kybella is the first and thus-far only FDA-approved non-surgical
injectable treatment for the double chin. Swelling is normal for 1-2 weeks after a treatment. This can lead to difficulty swallowing. Sometimes it lasts for 4 weeks or so. It is important to be calm and patient. Please consult with a doctor for specific recommendations. Good luck!

There have been reports of numbness and swelling several weeks after the injection. I would suggest that you return to your treating physican for examination and to make sure that you are not having any other problems. Please keep us posted. Best, Dr. Green
