Question

I have almost no top lip with kind of hang. When I press down right below my nose the rest of my top lip pops out and it’s beautiful! I had a filler done years ago but it didn’t help. I’m scared to go to sleep for surgery. The last plastic surgeon I went too, said he would need to put my lip on a plastic surgeon board to get some insight. He said it was like minutes away from a cleft I’m ready to change it but I need someone who knows what they are doing and are reasonably close to Louisville KY

It appears that you have three issues going on. You have an excessively long upper cutaneous or white lip. You have a very small vermillion area. Finally, the mucosal or red aspect of your upper lip appears to be deficient. You really need a combined approach to augment the lip areas and reduce the length of your white upper lip. I would see a board certified facial plastic surgeon in your area with expertise in lip restoration. Sometimes a combination of surgical procedures and implants can achieve your desired results or fillers appropriately placed may also help to achieve those results. Good luck in your area.

Thanks for your question. Strategically placed filler, containing hyaluronic acids such as Juvederm, Restylane, and Volbella, can create fuller volume in the lips. Indeed, it can even suddenly change the shape of the lip as well. However, if you have significant lip shape issues, such as a long upper lip or drooping corners, then you could opt for other procedures, such as an upper and/or corner lip lift. Best to consult with a board certified plastic surgeon who specializes in lip augmentation.

I’m not sure why dermal fillers didn’t help plump up your top lip the last time you got them. They should. You need to spend time finding an expert, though, to be sure you receive the right filler, the right amount, and injected in the right places. I never recommend surgery for the lips; it rarely looks natural. A  hyaluronic-acid based filler such as Belotero could give you a big improvement. Consulting with a board-certified dermatologist is the first step toward getting the lips you want.

You would get a nice improvement with lip fillers. These fillers, (Volbella, Restylane, Juvederm) are good to create a full and symmetrical lip. Nova threads can be used to improve lift and shape. Kyekye502.  I appreciate your concern, but fillers, done properly, should work for you, especially because of the maneuver lifting your lip with your finger, correcting the problem.  The filler should lift your lip the same way, and will plump it as well.  I would recommend lip augmentation with Hyaluronic Acid, like Juvederm Ultra plus to see if you like the look. Another option is fat transfer which is more permanent. It is done under local anesthesia and fat is usually taken from the lower abdomen or thighs. Studies show that at least 1/3 of transferred fat last forever. Seek out a board certified plastic surgeon in your area, Good Luck

Dermal fillers can enhance the size and shape of the lips, and provide a great result in some people. Other people may not benefit. When this procedure is performed properly, it can create a fuller and lifted upper lip. I would recommend consulting with a plastic surgeon, which specializes in this area.
