I have lost 200 pounds via VSG. I'm thinking of pairing Lower Body Lift and Extended Brachioplasty. Is that a do able combo?
Answer: Is it possible to perform a Lower Body Lift and Arm Lift at the same time? It is certainly possible, but I would perform them separately. Find a board certified plastic surgeon who performs hundreds of body contouring procedures each year. Then look at the plastic surgeon's website before and after photo galleries to get a sense of who can deliver the results. Kenneth Hughes, MD Los Angeles, CA

Answer: Body lift and brachioplasty Your surgeon can best answer this question as they know your needs and health profile. However, in general the combination of body lift and brachioplasty is a reasonable procedure as long as surgical time can be kept within 5 hours or so. The alternative is to do a two stage surgery. The pros and cons should be discussed thoroughly with your surgeon before you make any choice.Dr Rodger ShorttOakville Plastic Surgeon

Answer: Yes it is possible to perform Lower Body Lift and Arm Lift together, but not recommended. Yes, technically it is possible to perform the arm lift (brachioplasty) and the 360 circumferential body lift at the same time; and I have done it. However, I would not suggest it.After your 360 circumferential body lift, the problem is that you need your arms to get up and move around. To go from the bed to bathroom or the dining room, you need will need to pull yourself up. This is often difficult to do if your arms have just had surgery. In addition, you need your arms to take care of the incisions, drains, and dressing changes. Also, you will need your arms to take care of yourself in the bathroom.I would suggest having the 360 circumferential body lift first, then approximately one or two months later, having the arm lift or brachioplasty. To assist yourself getting out of bed after the 360 circumferential body lift, I would suggest recovering in a recliner. Ideally, you can purchase or rent a recliner that automatically sits you up.Good luck with your surgeries and weight loss journey.Sincerely Dr Katzen

Answer: On the Advisability of Combining Procedures Hi there-There are many very important variables to consider when considering the advisability of combining operative procedures into a single anesthetic, and you should discuss them with your surgeon, as only they will be able to put them into the context of your individual situation...Some of these variables include the length of the planned surgery (the longer it takes the greater the risks)- which depends greatly on who does it and the details of the technique planned, the details of the operations planned and whether or not one may compromise the ability to achieve the best outcome from the other, etc...In my practice, we only recommend combining procedures when they entire operation can be completed in under 6 hours, and the performance of one procedure will not necessarily compromise our ability to safely and successfully perform the other.Discuss these with your surgeon.

Answer: LBL and AL Having in mind that safety is number one, your doctor has to determine how much skin has to be resected and if the amount is very large, then you will be losing a lot of blood just because of the procedure, and then it wouldn't be secure to do another large procedure as is the Arm Lift. You should then wait at least 4-6 months among procedures.Consult with your doctor. He/She will advice betterDr. Cardenas
