Is it normal to stay the same weight after a body lift?

I had a body lift full abdominoplasty butt/thigh lift with liposuction 9 months ago. My surgeon removed 17 pounds of skin and fat. At no point after the surgery did I lose any of the surgical pounds. I weighed 173 prior to surgery and still weigh 173. Is this normal?

Congratulations on having a  360 body lift or lower body lift. I hope you see significant differences in the shape of your body. It sounds like your surgeon removed a significant amount of skin and fat. You should have lost weight, I am not sure why you have not. I would suggest you have a full body composition analysis performed. Typically, this can be performed in your plastic surgeon's office. Among other things, this analysis will determine your body's percent fat, muscle mass, and percent water weight. I believe that you will find that most of your weight is water weight. Hopefully, with appropriate diet and exert use, you will lose this water weight. Hopefully by losing this water weight, your body will show the results of your recent lift. After any type of body contouring surgery, including liposuction, TT, etc your body will "miss" the fat and weight taken and may trick you asking for more calories intake. So it is a bit easier to gain weight after  surgery like these.During the first 3-4 months where the swelling process is still going on, it is normal to weigh more, but after that time you should see the difference on the scale about losing weight after skin removal.Attend your Nutritionist in order to set he perfect diet for you and avoid continue gaining weight.Have a great journeyDr. Cardenas
