I pretty much always recommend a genioplasty over an implant. Implants can be unreliable and unpredictable. A genioplasty is more versatile and allows us to pretty much move your chin into any position. Once it is healed, it will be just as strong as the rest of your jaw bone, so there should be no impact on sports. A genioplasty would help to elongate your jawline and add balance to your profile. I would suggest doing some research but I highly recommend this over a chin implant.
You are a candidate for either procedure since the amount of forward projection needed to balance your face is not excessive. The chin implant will give a wider appearance to the chin while the genioplasty will keep the width narrow. Both procedures are performed in the office with sedation anesthesia.
Hello, I would definitely use a chin implant to increase the size of the chin. This surgery has fewer risks of complications and a faster recovery time. This can be done under general anesthesia. We create a pocket under the muscles and place the implant inside. Some doctors use a screw to fix the implant, but I personally think that this can increase pain. Sutures are used to close the wound inside the mouth. Recovery takes about 2 weeks. I am at your service.
I believe if you want the full improvement then you should get jaw and chin surgery. This is done in hospital after doing some pre-surgical orthodontics. If you do not wish to go through this route then you could get away with a small implant. In general I prefer sliding genioplasty because it is more natural looking. We can advance your chin to get a proper shape to the labiomental fold. Currently your chin has minimum curvuture. S.G. is a procedure done in the office setting under general anesthesia. It is safe, take 1 hour to do and you go home after the procedure. It has minimum pain. Recovery is about 10 days.
A genioplasty is performed by an oral surgeon under general anesthesia in a hospital setting with an overnight stay in the hospital, and is much more invasive. It's usually performed when the teeth are significantly out of alignment. Placement of a chin implant is performed under local anesthesia as an outpatient procedure which takes approximately 30 minutes. In our practice, we use Implantech brand of solid silicone chin implants with an excellent success rate.
From an aesthetic standpoint the answer to that question depends on what you want the chin to look like from the front view. A sliding genioplasty will either keep the width appearance the same or more narrow (depending upon how much forward movement is done) while a chin implant has the capability to make it wider or even square in appearance.
This is my expertise and a huge portion of my practice. Asymmetry is normal and expected. See an expert who does facial shaping with surgical and non surgical methods to get a comprehensive option. Best, Dr. Emer.
If your chin implant was placed intraorally then you should have it removed the same way in order to avoid a skin incision. If you had it placed from a submental approach, then you have already had a skin incision and as long as it healed fine remove it from the same extraoral incision. You...
The jawline soft tissue can only be contoured with filler which is successful for your situation. The implant exceeds the natural position of the overlying muscle.
