Hi! I’m on a accutane 20mg day for a month and should continue the treatments for following few months BUT i just dream about getting liposuction (I guess laser liposuction) of legs / tights when I can get the procedure after accutane? Should I wait 2 years or 6months is totally okey. And the risks are related to just scaring or it’s gangrenous for life and is anesthesia okey after accutane? Thank you so much
Answer: Preoperative protocol Dear Tattykoo, every plastic surgeon has his own preoperative protocol which he recommends to his patients. I would suggest you to discuss this with your plastic surgeon. Answer: Liposuction Accutane is used to treat acne. If you are considering to have liposuction, please discuss this with your dermatologist first. You might want to consider waiting until you are off Accutane. Generally, we recommend to wait at least six months after stopping Accutane before undergoing any surgical procedure like liposuction. A lot of factors influence the person's candidacy for Liposuction surgery including their age, medical history, medications they take, etc. It is best to discuss all of these things with your dermatologist. The patient has to consult with a board-certified plastic surgeon and dermatologist to determine if she needs or not. Some of the risks associated with the procedure include bleeding, infection, nerve injury, scarring, and swelling. There are also risks involved with anaesthesia. So, ensure to go through all the details with your dermatologist and plastic surgeon.

Answer: Elective surgery after Accutane Each provider will have their own comfort and in someways it depends a bit on individual patients and their propensity for forming scars that are highly visible or not. Six months is pretty standard. Lower extremity liposuction is technically difficult and results do not always come out the way patients had hoped for. A lot depends on each person‘s candidacy for the procedure. Generally speaking young patients with tight skin and moderate amounts of fat in less than ideal fat distributions do best. Adding laser treatment to Liposuction really doesn’t give any particular advantage. Delivering consistent Quality Liposuction results it’s more difficult than most people believe it. The results are permanent any reversible. I recommend patients be very careful with provider selection for this procedure. Do that by having multiple in person consultations at which time you should ask each provider to show their entire collection of before and after pictures for lower extremity liposuction results. Simply seeing a handful of pre-selected pictures which most likely represents the best result of the providers career is insufficient to get a clear understanding over the average results will look like in the hands of each provider. This is why getting access to seeing their entire before and after picture collection or at least as many as they’re willing to show you it’s so important. ask each provider to show you as many before and after pictures with patients who have similar body characteristics to your own as possible. asked to see examples of excellent outcomes, average outcomes and less than outcomes. An experience provider should have no difficulty showing you at least 30 sets of a quality before an after pictures of lower extremity liposuction. Highly experienced providers will have hundreds. Finally I recommend reading all reviews on various position review websites avoiding providers for any significant number of justified negative reviews. The absence of justified negative reviews is more important and more telling than having an abundance of positive reviews. When in doubt continue having more consultations. Best, Mats Hagstrom MD
