Is it worth it to put 1/2 ml Juvederm fillers in the lips? Or go directly with 1? (Photos)

Question

My doctor advised me it is better to put 1/2 ml fillers in stead of 1 in my lips. I haven’t had any fillers before, so I am wondering will there be any noticeable difference at all? I cannot go every week to make it again and wait for the bruising to go away so I prefer to do it at one go. Thanks ;)

There's nothing wrong with starting with a 1/2 syringe and adding more later if desired. However, based on what I see in your pictures and my experience, you probably won't get much of a difference with just half a syringe and will likely want the full syringe. The most important thing is the experience of the injector. I work closely with my clients in an interactive manner as I am injecting so that if they want more volume we can always add more filler during that session. Make sure you are comfortable with your injector. Best wishes.

Getting amazing result in lips depends on the doctor's experience and technique more than just the amount of filler injected.  Doing lips right is an art that I have seen many times terribly done by others with unfavorable results.  So choosing right doctor is more important than figuring out how much material to inject.

This will depend on the final results you want to achieve.1/2 ml will give you subtle results. These lip fillers (Volbella, Restylane, Juvederm) are good for creating a symmetrical and full lip. Nova threads can be used to improve lift and shape. Dear dessy234,I typically use Juvederm for my lip sculpting. There are two main focuses of lip injections, adding volume and actually sculpting the shape. Both involve injecting the filler in different areas of the lips and patterns. The amount of filler depends on the size and shape of your lips as well as from your goals. 
I would recommend finding a plastic surgeon to perform you lip injections. Most of my patients have results that last at least 6 months.Daniel Barrett, MD

Thank you for your question! My personal feeling is that you are likely to be disappointed with only one half cc of Juvaderm for lip augmentation. You may not need a full syringe, but I'd rather waste a little and use 0.75 mL or 0.8 mL then have you disappointed. It's rare that I find a patient  who requires upper and lower lip augmentation who can't benefit from nearly one full cc. Best of luck!

Thank you for your photos. You can always try having only 1/2 mL in first and look in the mirror, if you feel that the difference is too small, your doctor can put in another 1/2mL right there at the same visit. This really depends on your exam findings and goals. I usually am wary of patients wanting to put in a fraction of a syringe into an area that needs significant augmentation, but lips are highly subjective. It is certainly reasonable to start with a small syringe (depending on the product, it may be available in less than a 0.8-1cc syringe) and supplement later after your initial treatment if you want more augmentation, but I find that most patients need 1 cc or more to correct lip volume deficiencies unless they are interested in only focusing on the upper or lower lip.

It all depends where and how your filler will be injected. With the volume of your lips one could achieve wonderful results with 0.5ml only. Your injector is right if your goal is to have enhanced but natural looking lips. You can always add more. Otherwise, if your lips are overdone and you are not happy, you will receive an advice to dissolve it from those who may advocate much higher volume. Good luck!
