Is it okay to sterilize hyaluronic acid gel with UV? (photo)

there is absolutely no reason to do this.  I think manipulation of the filler is best to avoid, as the fillers are tested siginifantly before they are used on people. with proper technique and cleanliness there is reason for this. Best, Dr. Emer.

I have never heard this done before and I don't see a reason why it should be done. Infection with filler injections is very rare when proper precautions are taken. Hopefully they aren't doing this because they are re-using the syringes between patients.

The syringes that the company send us are sterile.  There is no reason to do additional sterilization. Not sure what the UV radiation is going to do to the product, but could possibly alter the consistency.  I would not recommend doing this.  

There is no reason to place Juvederm syringes in a UV cabinet for sterilization, as the syringes come already pre-packaged in a sterile container and should not under any circumstances be re-used between patients. Always make sure that you are seeing a board-certified dermatologist with experience and skill for any injectable treatments.

This seems OK, but curious as the UV does not seem necessary.The product comes sterile.It is more important to clean the skin.

With proper technique and properly acquired Juvederm, there is no need to perform this step.  I would suggest asking your doctor to simply use sterile technique, or find another physician to inject your Juvederm.

This is in no way standard practice and I have never heard of anyone doing this.  The syringes of fillers come in sterile packaging with sterile needles.  I would strongly recommend that you see another provider.

I never heard of this either and it's not needed. The critical point is to sterilize the skin the a chlorascrub swab stick because if there is going to be the slight chance of an infection, it will be from natural skin microflora being introduced inside the skin during the injection process. So sterile technique is critical.  Best of luck to you. 

I don't know anyone that does this with fillers. They are sterile when shipped to your physician's office and need no pre-treatment prior to injection.
