Restylane under the eyes. Does it possibly cause eye floaters?

the floaters in the eye are due to cell s in the vitreous. This is due to aging and usually is due to vitreous turning to liquid from gel.  

Hi Martina, sorry to hear about your situation.  As with the other responses you have received, it is very unlikely that Restylane has anything to do with the floaters you are seeing.  There have been instances where injection procedures have caused vision issues, but it relates to the occlusion (blockage) of blood vessels in the face that lead to the eyes.  In this case, it would not be floaters, rather there would be an interruption in the vision.  When injections are performed safely, the risk of occlusion is virtually zero.  We would recommend being seen by an Ophthalmologist.  

You state that you were examined by an eye doctor.  Was your eye doctor an ophthalmologist, and eye MD, or an optometrist, an individual with far less training?  If you saw an eye MD and they examined the the eye including a detailed examination of the retina, then relax, floaters are not caused by Restylane and the eye MD will have ruled out any of the more concerning issues that are associated with floaters.  On the other hand, if the eye doctor you saw was an optometrist, I strongly recommend seeing an ophthalmologist for an appropriate assessment of your eye health.

No, this is unlikely due to your Restylane injections. At this point, the Restylane has also dissolved. I recommend following up with an opthamologist for a formal evaluation. Best, Dr. Emer 

I do not believe the Restylane is causing your eye symptoms. It's probably all gone at 2 years, anyway. At your age, these are serious symptoms and you need to see an eye specialist right away. Best wishes, Dr. ALDO 

Thank you for your question. What you are experiencing is very unlikely due to Restylane injections. It is very rare for Restylane to affect vision, however when it does the onset is fairly quick. What you are describing is most likely unrelated to Restylane injections.  It is extremely uncommon for Restylane injections to affect vision, but when it does, the onset is fairly quick.  This highlights why it is important to see an experienced cosmetic Dermatologist for these types of treatments, particularly for the tear troughs.If the "floaters" are becoming bothersome to you, I recommend you follow up with your eye doctor.  Rest assured, though, this is almost certainly not due to Restylane injections.

Floaters are clumps of protein in the eye itself and Restylane cannot affect this in any way. They are nothing to be concerned about and are just a natural part of aging

Floaters can occur at any age, but more common in middle- age or older. The inside of the eye is filled with a jelly- like material that  can form "clumps" that move around inside the eye and are seen as moving 'gray spots', 'lines'  or  'circles'. , These "clumps " can occur for a number of reasons , but Restylane injections under your eyes from a skilled cosmetic surgeon are NOT one of them.

Thanks for the great question. The floaters you're seeing is unlikely due to the restylane. Floaters are due to little particles moving around inside of your eye that come into your field of vision. Unless injected directly into the eye, there isn't a way for the resylane to get in there. Best of luck!~Dr. Sieber
