Can I use an arnica cream or gel directly on injected Restylane lip a day later?

To control swelling, I like Arnica pills and Arnica cream. It's quite effective. We like to see our patients back at two weeks, but if you feel there's an issue then get an earlier appointment.Best of luck,Dr. ALDO Top 100 Realself doctor.

Hello,Yes, Arnica cream or gel is not a problem to use, but we agree that the pill form may be more productive.  For swelling, we recommend to our patients the use of gentle icing (gentle) the first 1-2 days, Ibuprofen and Benadryl.  We also discourage massaging or manipulation as this may exacerbate the swelling and/or move the product.  We invite all new injection patients to return in 2 weeks for a complimentary check up.  You may want to ask your practitioner for a follow up to address any concerns.  For most, the swelling improves with each passing day.

I also think it is foolish to instruct patients to apply direct pressure to a filler treatment because there is a risk of moving product.  Gentle icing is helpful the first and second day.  Don't over do it.  It is primarily for your comfort.

You can use arnica. Icing and cold compresses can help also. Yes, you may have swelling, which can be asymmetrical, for 1-2 weeks after injections. You can apply firm pressure between two fingers on the lips for a few days, for 5 mins a time, in order to help decrease swelling. Each Doctor's protocol is different for follow-ups, but typically patients schedule a follow-up at 2-3 weeks. See an expert. Best, Dr. Emer

Thank you for your question. Yes, you can use Arnica after injection to help with bruising and swelling. You can also apply cold compresses to the treated area to help reduce swelling. Arnica can help with bruising.  If you have any concerns you should follow up with your physician right away.  Always seek treatment from a qualified physician.

When fillers are injected into your face - especially your lips - care needs to be taken to avoid exposing the small punctures to bacteria. Typically, your face will be cleaned prior to injection with fillers and massage of the area will be facilitated by using an antibiotic ointment. You should avoid lip licking, lipsticks, facial creams and arnica gels or serums for the first 24 hours. Biofilm granulomas are rare but if you develop biofilm-related bumps and swelling, management can be complex and take a long time to get you looking good again.

There are no controlled studies that show that topical Arnica Cream will reduce swelling after Restylane injections. Yes, you should schedule a follow up appointment with your plastic surgeon, in a few weeks after the swelling is gone,  to address your concerns.
