Will pressing or rubbing my nose make it longer or change the shape?

Hi. I have recently been concerned about the septum part of my nose (outside part that's visible). I have tried to press it and rub it upwards and I'm really scared that it may ruin my nose. I haven't done it for a while though, maybe less than 2 or 3 months, and only casually when I'm not doing anything else. Will my nose droop more overtime? Will this affect my nose in any good or bad way?

Trying to change your nose by manipulating it will not produce any results at all.  But it sounds like you may be a candidate for surgery and should go on a few consults to get comfortable with what your options are.

Hi!  Ordinary rubbing of the nose will not change the shape in any way.  If too much of it is visible and you are trying to 'tuck it in' then you should definitely see a board certified plastic surgeon with experience in rhinoplasty to get the result you desire.

It has been shown that if you continuously pull on a part that you will most likely change its shape and end up with more droopiness. This would apply not only to your nose but also to breasts,etc. I don't think though if you do it infrequently it will affect anything.

Dear simalissa, The nasal septum separates the left and right airways in the nose, dividing the two nostrils. The fleshy external end of the nasal septum is called the columella which would be the "visible part" that you state. Pressing and rubbing this for a few months will not change the shape. If you are trying to change the shape of your nose I would suggest seeing a specialist in rhinoplasty surgery and discussing surgical options. Best regards, Michael V. Elam, M.D.
