I am 5'8 and weigh 135 pounds. No matter how skinny I get, I can't seem to get rid of the little bit of fat along my jawline. This is especially prominent along the sides of my face. I saw that SculpSure was recently approved for submental fat but the device seems to be fitted under the chin. What about the sides? What can give me a defined jawline all around?
Answer: Kybella vs coolsculpting mini vs Sculpsure This is a good question. In general, most patients can use either one and get a good result. The downtime is what sets the two apart. Coolsculpting Mini is preferred by the majority because there's very little swelling and downtime associated with treatment and may even cost a bit less than repeated kybella treatments. The safety profile with coolsculpting is also much higher than it is with Kybella. Sculpsure hasn't proven to be as effective as the other two in my opinion. In the right hands, Kybella can provide a very nice improvement in the neck. The biggest issue that we deal with is the swelling that follows in the neck that takes you from a double chin to a triple chin very quickly and lasts about a week which nobody wants. What makes it worse, is that kybella is usually a series of injections over 2-4 sessions so have to repeat the swelling every month for a while. Patients who are not candidates for coolsculpting mini (because of a small jawbone and cannot fit the applicator) are good candidates for kybella.

Answer: Kybella, Coolsculpting or Sculpsure--add thermage, ultherapy, exilis, VASER, ThermiRF Kybella is good for dissolving fat under the chin, but a combination approach with other treatments is needed to get the most improvement with non-invasive options. I recommend Kybella with thermage, ultherapy, exilis. VASER liposuction in combination with ThermiRF is the best alternative for contouring the chin. I recommend getting a formal evaluation with a cosmetic dermatologist. Best, Dr. Emer

Answer: I want to reduce the fat and sharpen the sides of my jawline? Kybella or Neck Liposuction Both Kybella or neck liposuction are good options and will improve the double chin. It depends on your lifestyle and personality which would be better for you. Kybella is best for patients that: 1) Do not want surgery 2) Are not surgical candidates 3) Not willing to wear a compression dressing around the face for 1 week 4) Patient- The results of Kybella will take months Kybella take 1-3 treatments every 6 weeks. Patient will develop swelling and possible bruising after each injection that may last a few days. The benefit of Kybella is each treatment is quick and completed in the office. However, some patients need more than one treatment to get desired results. Neck Liposuction is best for patients that: 1) Want a single treatment 2) One recovery time- Downtime for neck liposuction require wearing a wrap around face for 1 week. 3) Less painful 4) Quicker results 5) Cost is a concern Neck liposuction is a quick surgical procedure that can be complete while the patient is awake. It cost around the same price a Kybella and can be less in patients with heavier necks. The single recovery of neck liposuction may be a better option for some patients.

Answer: Reduce fat and sharpen the sides of the jawline Hi and thank you for this question. This issue of which treatment is best comes up commonly. There will always be a difference of opinion no matter who you consult with. It is difficult to tell from the picture but the sides of the jaw are a bit full. It is important to determine the cause of the fullness. Seek out a consultation where you can be examined to determine that this area is actually pinchable fat tissue as there are many other things that cause the fullness. Examples would be lymph nodes, muscle, salivary glands etc. If this is fat, then a variety of things can be done to treat it. I have had Kybella myself for this area even though I have other treatment options. The reason I sought out Kybella is because it is the most cost effective for smaller areas and it can be quite customizable for those curves that are difficult to get to with other technologies. I inject frequently the sides of the jawline, bra fat areas, inner thighs and underarms with great results. Someone who is experienced with these injections will know how to treat this area well and I am sure you would be very happy with the results. Good luck! Best, Dr. Valerie Schneider

Answer: Jawline definition It is best to have an in-office examination to evaluate your jawline. Defining your jawline depends on the underlying bone and the muscle, skin, and fat on top. If your jaw is small in general, using filler to augment the appearance of the bone can increase definition. If you have good structure but bulky muscles, these muscles can be thinned with Botox injections, particularly in the back of the jaw. Loose skin can be treated with energy devices such as Ultherapy. Fat can be treated with liposuction or Kybella. Kybella in the jawline area is considered off-label. Kybella in general takes at least 2 or more treatments to see full effect and can initially make the area appear more puffy from swelling and inflammation. Hope this helps!!! Johnson C.
