I didn't wear my garments after liposuction. Is it possible that the contouring my doctor did will be damaged?

There is no problem if you skip a day now and then when you are 2 weeks post op liposuction.  The garments are usually worn day and nite for 2 weeks then during the day only for 1 month more. You did not do any permanent damage.

Thanks for your question. I  have my liposuction patients wear a compression garment (faja) covering all treated 24/7 except to shower for 4 weeks post op.  This helps ontrol swelling as the compression on your tissues helps your body to reabsorb the edema fluid that accumulates in the tissues after any procedure. This can take quite some time to happen without help from the compression garments.  It also helps improve  contour.  Compression helps to keep the tissues adherent to the underlying structures while healing, this can help prevent the wrinkled skin appearance that can happen when the tissues heal in ways we don't want them to.

You will be fine!  There are plenty of surgeons who don't encourage compression until a few days after liposuction as the garment itself can leave imprints in your body.  Check with your surgeon for their preference and recommendations as massage/lymphatic drainage works for some doctors.  Best Wishes!!

Hi.  If you only skipped the compression garment for one night - don't worry.  You'll be just fine in the long run.  You didn't ruin anything.

Your garment helps prevent accumulation of fluid in the areas where fat has been removed. It will also help to decrease swelling, and to conform the skin to its new position, maximizing the cosmetic outcome. It will allow you to see the final result following surgery much sooner. Failure to comply with garment instructions will increase the risk of seroma formation and suboptimal results.I generally advise patients wear their garment 24 hours a day for three weeks, removing it only when bathing or washing it. From 3 to 6 weeks, wear your garment in the day only. It helps with easing swelling and reducing the risk of seroma. The garment should fit snugly but not to the point that you can't breathe or are feeling sore.Indentations and wrinkles are usually temporary and will go away in the weeks and months after your surgery.

Garments help the healing process and if not worn correctly, they can cause indentation and incorrect skin attachment and needs to be worn properly for best results.  Best, Dr. Emer.

Your results probably won't be affected if you didn't wear them for one night only. But I really believe in garment use for up to six weeks after liposuction. Around 4 weeks, I like to have the patients try something more comfortable such as a Spanx, and possibly of a smaller size , as they usually change sizes for the better around the 4 week after liposuction. Thanks for writing,Liposuction garments are designed to control swelling, hold skin in a good position, and allow for controlled skin shrinkage. Having said that, at three weeks, with one episode you maybe be fine, I however would check with your Plastic Surgeon to ensure everything is going well. You should follow the post-op instructions closely. He / she will tell you how long they will want you to wear your garment. They may even have you change garments.I hope this helpsStephen M.
