FUE Hair transplant poor growth 7 months. Age 40s

Question

I had an FUE 7 months ago. Norwood 3 V. My doctor says to wait a year. I need more coverage for film and photo work. No medical conditions to account for poor growth. I had about 1950 grafts, but only look minimally better than where I started on the hairline, with virtually no change on the crown. How long should I wait to see if I need another procedure. One year? Eighteen months? I am not attaching photos or giving the doctors name for privacy issues. Thanks for any advice.

It can take 6 to 12 months after surgery to see results.  If you are concerned it is best to contact your doctor.  Usually doctors want you to wait a year before considering another surgery.

growth of transplanted hair is not the same for every individual. Many people see
most of the result by 6 months. However, we occasionally have had patient who
did not show any improvement in month 6, but they show full result after the
first year.

At 7 months there's really nothing you should be doing but waiting. You may just be a late bloomer when it comes to your transplants growing, some people don't get much growth until month 8 or even month 9. Full growth isn't until 12 months, so I wouldn't think too much about getting another transplant until then.

Transplanted hairs start to visibly regrow beginning from  the 6th month . At month 6-9, a patient may expect to see growth for  80% of the transplants. Again, due to the random cycle of hair growth, not all grafts will start growing at the same time.  Initially, the hair my be thinner and finer. It will gain length and density as it matures. Full growth from the transplants is usually achieved at 12 months and  in some cases it  may take 18 month to see the result . If you have concerns better to contact your surgeon for follow up . At 7 months you will be at only about 60% growth, at 12 months you will be at roughly 90% growth. Remain patient and continue to follow your doctors post op care instructions.

I generally tell my patients that I expect 80% of the results in 8 months. If by the 10th month you still don't have the results you expected, then go back to your doctor.  The law in most states forbid a surgeon to guarantee the surgery. Think about it, if you had cancer and your surgeon guaranteed that he would cure you, that is impossible and illegal. So a hair transplant is the same thing; however, any good doctor should warrant his work regardless of the fault. If there is some failure of any part of the hair transplant process, or any complication that should arise, I am always good to make it right. I want patient satisfaction 100% of the time

Hair follicle needs to go through its intrinsic cycle of growth. Depending on where it is in The cycle, then it will start to grow in. Usually it starts around three to four months and may take up to a year for full growth. However, usually around seven months you should have around fifty percent growth. If you are concerned contact your doctor for a follow up. We usually follow up with our clients every few months and take pictures to record the progress. Your doctor may have pictures to show you.
