Strong pain in donor area 7 days post op FUE

Question

Hello, Im post op 7 days FUE (2000 grafts) now and with very strong pain in the donor area. It feels like a sting/needle like pain and makes me really hard to concentrate/read/sleep. I am taking 600mg ibuprofen but it doesnt help at all. Moreover some parts of my donor area (back left upper side of the head is completely numb). This pain started 4 days Post op and doesnt go away. Is this something normal that occurs after FUE? Why does it happen? When will the pain go away? Any suggestions?

If you are having issues after surgery, especially with "strong" pain you should contact your doctor.  It is not typical.

Thanks for the question. A hair transplant operation can take four hours or more. Your stitches will be removed about 10 days after surgery. You may require up to three or four sessions to achieve the full head of hair you desire. Sessions occur several months apart to allow each transplant to fully heal. I wish you all the best.

Out of the 1,400 FUE cases I have performed, only 3 people have really had significant pain. Sometimes, some people just have more pain than others and that is completely fine. However, you would want to watch for certain red flags which are infections which is really rare. Make sure your not having fever or significant tenderness to touch. Please contact to Doctor and follow up with this.
 Are you an antibiotics? Are you using anti microbial lotions or creams at the back of the scalp?
I would use Bacitracin ointment on the back of the scalp twice a day starting now. Hope this helps.

Some patients have mild discomfort on day 1-2. Severe pain, especially starting day 4 is ususual. Be sure to contact your surgeon for a thorough review. FUE is associated with much less discomfort than strip and many have minimal pain.

Its normal to feel some pain in the donor area after the procedure.  Most patients describe it as mild.  If it doesn't improve, you should contact your physician.

Every patient experienced discomfort differently had has different threshold of pain.  Its normal to experience discomfort in the donor area for about a week after an FUE procedure.  It should begin to subside.

It is common to experience pain / stinging / itching in the donor area a few days after the procedure. I recommend checking with your physician and inquiring about pain medication if the ibuprofen doesn't help.

It is not common for patients to experience strong pain at any point after an FUE procedure. If you have been having constant strong pain for 3+ days, it is in your best interest to discuss with your doctor that performed the procedure.
