I had surgery done which distorted my features and I'm not happy with it. Is it "bad" to ask for a refund or a partial refund? I have been told that the surgery is not reversible (a midface lift through the eye, facelift, and rhinoplasty) and it has totally changed the appearance of my eyes and the character of my face. I've been struggling to accept this, but feel that I didn't pay a lot of money (in all, around 75k), to look much worse. Would it be wrong for me to ask for a refund or partial refund?
Answer: Is it OK to ask for a refund after a procedure is done if one doesn't like the results? It is unfortunate that you are not satisfied with your results. It is usually not acceptable to ask for a refund if you happen not to like the results unless there is evidence that the surgery was done inappropriately and outside the standards of care. The surgeons usually make it clear that they haven't given any guaranties of certain results. Complications are mentioned in the consent forms that you signed. You can always ask and the surgeon might agree to refund part of the money, but they would ask you to sign a release that you would not have any further claims against them if they refunded you the money.

Answer: Refund Refunds are a very difficult topic in plastic surgery. From a legal and logistic point of view, refunds are seen as a reportable occurrence to the American board of Plastic Surgery, and as such most plastic surgeons are not inclined to provide a refund. If the request comes in written form, then it absolutely has to be reported to the board, and the likelihood of you receiving a settlement would be minimal. I am always willing to engage in discussions with my patients regarding their financial outlay and their outcome. I think this would be the most prudent course for you .
