Thank you for your question! My patients wear their compression garments for the first 3 weeks 24/7, starting right after surgery, followed by an additional 3 weeks at night only. Best of luck!
Thanks for your question. It's best to follow your surgeons specific advice post-operatively. I have my patients wear a compression garment (faja) covering all treated areas 24/7 except to shower for 4 weeks post op. This helps ontrol swelling as the compression on your tissues helps your body to reabsorb the edema fluid that accumulates in the tissues after any procedure. This can take quite some time to happen without help from the compression garments. It also helps improve contour. Compression helps to keep the tissues adherent to the underlying structures while healing, this can help prevent the wrinkled skin appearance that can happen when the tissues heal in ways we don't want them to.
Thank you for the question. It is best to ask your board certified plastic surgeon how long you should wear your garment. In our practice we recommend it to wear it for 3 weeks. Good luck.
I would ask your plastic surgeon about garments and the duration of wear, because each plastic surgeon will have a different protocol. For a period of six weeks, 24/7, I typically ask patients to wear adjustable garments with multiple bands so that tension can be adjusted and the areas of liposuction are less likely to get a fluid collection. The garments typically do not cover the buttocks. Kenneth Hughes, MD, ABPS Board Certified Plastic SurgeonLos Angeles, CA
Hello dear!!Thanks for the question and provided information as well.I suggest my patients to use a full body compression garment, 24/7 for the first 3 months, and after that, for 12 hours a day for 3 more months, to get the best results. It is important for the compression garment to be very tight, for it to help with the swelling, after surgery. Please, follow up close with your plastic surgeon.Good luck :)
Your surgeon should provide a proper compression garment that applies the pressure where it's needed and give you the guidelines when and how long to wear it for -- a faja will not give you the right pressure in the right areas.
simply asking that question makes me assume you were planning on traveling to have your procedure done by someone in a faraway place. I cannot emphasize enough the importance of staying local for surgical procedures. Patients do not appreciate the complications do happen, after care is necessary and a substantial number of people need revision surgery. Add a minimum have a back up plan for how you plan to address each of these issues if you're planning on traveling for surgery. Relying on local plastic surgeons to take care of your complication is not a good strategy. Each plastic surgeon will have their own protocol and generally supplying a compression garment. This is almost always reviewed during an in person consultation. If you're still looking for doctors then you should proceed to having consultations. During the consultation your provider will discuss your postoperative care. No plastic surgeon is going to give you advice because none of us want other doctors telling our patients how to be managed after we do surgeries. So out of respect for your provider we will unanimously tell you to follow the instructions you will be given. That is the correct way to use your compression garment.Best, Mats Hagstrom MD
