Some doctors recommend Arnica, though the evidence is not as strong as for other medications. I do not recommend Arnica, though I am not opposed to patients using Arnica. Post-recovery protocols vary from surgeon to surgeon. In our practice, Arnica gel may be implemented as early as day 3 post-surgery. The product does not cause any harm, and can only help or improve ones recovery.
arnica is a homeopathic remedy which in my opinion means it does not work. The scientific literature supporting this product is weak at best. I don't believe any plastic surgeon truly believes arnica makes a difference but many are happy to sell you the product. Best, Mats Hagstrom MD
