I am scheduled for a bbl on the 16th of May this year & I gave a 16 month old son. After a week post op would I be able to pick my son up again? Or would this potentially damage my results? He is very attached to me, and I’m eager to know
Answer: ABSTAIN COMPLETELY FROM LIFTING HEAVY OBJECTS AFTER BBL SURGERY. Hello lojajessenia1, It’s a pleasure to answer your questions! After a Brazilian Butt Lift (BBL) surgery, patients should abstain completely from lifting heavy objects, children or pets. Make sure you continue to have lots of help at home (this cannot be stressed enough). You'll be tempted to try to help around the house, but you should avoid strenuous exercise and activities for 6-8 weeks. You shouldn't do any heavy lifting (such as picking up your children or baskets of laundry) for at least six weeks. If you have small children, you must put someone else totally in charge of their care for at least the first two weeks. Since every case is different, it’s always best to consult with your plastic surgeon about your particular needs and concerns. Good luck and may God bless you! Dr. De La Cruz.

Answer: Lifting post BBL Thank you for your question! For my patients having a BBL, I recommend they do not lift over 10 lbs in the gym for 6 weeks post op. It is also recommended to have help around the house for the first week or 2 and have family/friends pick up your son and hand him to you while sitting. After that, it’s ok to pick up your child, however, try to bend at the knees and bear hug him, then stand. I recommend discussing specific post op instructions with your plastic surgeon. Best of luck!

Answer: How long after a BBL will I be able to carry my one year old son? Would I be able to pick him up after 1 week? I find that having someone to help with child care is helpful for 4 weeks or so. Most surgeons would recommend that you wait at least 6 weeks before lifting greater than 10 lbs. I do think that strenuous activity or lifting can create more swelling and create the potential for more seromas. Kenneth Hughes, MD , ABPS Board Certified Plastic SurgeonLos Angeles, CA

Answer: How long after a BBL will I be able to carry my one year old son? Would I be able to pick him up after 1 week? Post-recovery protocols vary from surgeon to surgeon. However, generally speaking one should be able to lift and carry their child around week 2; weak 1 may be a little too early for comfort.
