Flying 5 days after a tummy tuck is possible in some carefully selected patients, but it is earlier than many surgeons prefer and should only be done if your operating surgeon has cleared you after seeing you. The main concerns are blood clots, bleeding, fluid buildup, drains, pain control, limited mobility, and whether you could get help quickly if a problem develops. Many surgeons prefer patients to stay nearby for at least 7-14 days, especially after a full tummy tuck or combined procedures. If you must fly early, your surgeon should give specific instructions about walking in the airport and during the flight, compression, hydration, medications, drain care, and when to seek help. Do not travel without urgent evaluation if you have shortness of breath, chest pain, fainting, calf pain, one-sided leg swelling, fever, spreading redness, drainage, worsening pain, or rapidly increasing swelling.
