Three or more weeks for recovery then make up in my practice recommendations to my patients assuming there is a normal recovery.
I generally advise patients not wear make-up for the first two weeks after surgery. When you start putting on makeup again, don't use any products that are very dark because pigments can permanently darken incision lines. However, it's best to ask your surgeon because they might have different advice.
After eyelid surgery you should wait until the day after the sutures are removed to apply makeup to the area. It is also best to ask your surgeon when they feel it is safe for you to wear make up as they are in the best position to tell how the incisions are healing. If everything has gone well and is healing normally I usually say the day after the sutures are removed but be careful not to put traction on the eyelid for the first 2 weeks to avoid disrupting the scar. It still isn't fully healed for several weeks.
Makeup on top of sutures tends to clump and look very obvious. Sutures are usually removed or fragment and fall out around 5-7 days. Once sutures are removed, it is usually OK to apply makeup to camouflage any redness. Please ask your chosen surgeon for more specific advice.
Hi! Thank you for your question.I am Dr. Speron, a proud member of both the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS) and the American Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons (ASAPS). I am also certified with the American Board of Plastic Surgery. To answer your question, you cannot wear any make-up until your stitches come out completely since it may cause an infection. The average time you have to wait for the stitches to come out is about six days.Below are some links for additional information and before and after pictures. If you have any further questions, please feel free to call us at 847.696.9900.Best of luck and have a great day!Regards,Dr. Speron
Hi Kathleen. I think I would agree with the other surgeons on this site. Although patient and surgeon dependent, generally speaking makeup may be applied after suture removal. Good luck and best wishes.
After upper or lower eyelid surgery, you should avoid makeup as long as it appears the skin is still open in any way. If you see crusting, scabbing, or if dissolvable stitches are still present, makeup should be avoided. In most cases, by 2 weeks you should be okay, but have your surgeon take a look to make sure you won't be introducing bacteria from the makeup into healing wounds.
Its best to wait at least a week after eyelid surgery before applying makeup. We use dissolvable stitches on the upper lids, so patients are able to put make-up on as soon as the sutures are dissolved. Permanent sutures are usually are removed at one week so that should be an adequate time to apply makeup. For many examples of what blepharoplasty can accomplish and our pre-and postoperative instructions please see the link below
You should not apply makeup over the incision until the stitches are removed and your plastic surgeon says it is okay, because of the potential of causing an infection or a "tattoing" of the scar from the pigment in the makeup. I would suggest that you find a surgeoncertified by the American Board of American Plastic Surgery and one who isideally a member of The American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS)that you trust and are comfortable with. You should discuss your concerns withthat surgeon in person and follow his or her instructions..Robert Singer, MD FACSLa Jolla, California
Please do not apply makeup on sutures. I request that patients wait until the day after their sutures are removed before applying makeup to prevent infection or scarring.
