Left breast pain/sharp and bubble like sensation: I am 3 weeks post-op and my left breast is in constant throbbing pain.

Question

When I move certain ways it also feels like I have an air bubble under my breast and the pain worsens and gets more intense. I don’t have any change in appearance, temperature or color to my breast. Just this pain that is going on for 5 days now. The throbbing pain wouldn’t bother me so much but the air bubble feeling when I move and pain associated is concerning.

Thanks for your inquiry. While it is normal to have some air trapped in the pocket to cause a bubbly sensation, it is not normal to have such intense pain this far out. Get evaluated by your plastic surgeon to make sure there is not an underlying problem. Good luck. Hope you get feeling better.

I'd suggest booking an appointment with your surgeon to be examined. Having some air trapped after a BA is normal, but to have constant throbbing pain 3 weeks out and the feeling of a specific air bubble is a bit abnormal. Best of luck!

The bubble sensation you describe is common, but is usually more noticeable early after surgery.  I recommend contacting your surgeon for an evaluation of the pain you are experiencing.  At this point in recovery some occasional soreness is common, but severe pain is not.

some women will notice air bubble feeling or swishing feeling. usually it is noticed early. it will almost certainly go away with no treatment in the next 3-6 weeks. it is unusual to have so much pain at 3 weeks. I would guess that you just strained one of your chest muscles and it will go away with time. It is perfectly reasonable to ask your plastic surgeon to have a look at you, since this pain is new.david berman md
