I am nearly 18 months post op from my abdominoplasty, and I would like to know if abdominal crunches should never be done once you have had this surgery. Is it possible to have a reoccurrence of diastasis recti due to exercise?

Answer: Abdominal crunches ever again after abdominoplasty?? In the case of uneventful healing, after four months, stomach exercises such as crunches should be okay. Abdominal exercises that bulge the abdominal muscles forward (crunches, sit-ups, double leg lifts and some Pilates-based exercises) can induce or exacerbate diastasis recti because they exert forward, forceful pressure on the abdominal wall. Answer: Abdominal crunches ever again after abdominoplasty?? Thank you for your question. My patients are allowed to perform core exercises eight weeks after surgery (crunches, planks, burpees, etc). The muscle repair is typically performed using sutures. After eight weeks the repair has healed completely and is strong. If you have concerns, you can always reach out to your surgeon for guidance.
