How long does it normally take for menstruation to resolve after a tummy tuck?

Hi- I had my tummy tuck on 4/8/19 and began my period a week later (approx 1 week early) and have been menstruating ever since (going on 13 days). Although I’ve read this can be a normal response to trauma, I’m wondering one long this typically takes to resolve?

Hello Kaylah,Great question. There is no set number I can provide for when menstruation should stop. Every person is different. I will say if it continues going onto 4 weeks to contact a gynecologist. Good luck with your recovery.

Thank you for you question. Following surgery, the bodies hormones are affected and will alter the timing and duration of a woman's menstrual cycle. This is all normal. It is difficult to give an exact answer to the resolution since every woman is different. In general, 3 to 4 weeks is a benchmark for the body to return to normal. If bleeding persists after this time, please see your gynecologist.

It is not unusual for the stress of surgery to alter your normal menstrual cycle.  It typically will return to normal after a few weeks.  If it does not resolve within 4 weeks contact your gynecologist for an evaluation.

Is not uncommon to miss a period, to be late or to have longer periods due to stress and hormone regulation, post surgery. But all these varies depending on the patient.
Please follow up close with your plastic surgeon for any concerns.
