Different plastic surgeons will have different opinions about doing a BBL and Tammy talk as a combined versus split procedures. I personally feel it’s better to do these as separate procedures for a multitude of reasons. Likewise, plastic surgeons will have a different opinion, regarding which procedure should be done first. I think most plastic surgeons will agree that when harvesting sufficient amount of fat for a BBL may be a challenge the BBL should be done first. For patients who have abundance attorney is fat my Preference is generally to do the tummy tuck first. There are different ways of justifying each of the decisions. A lot of it also depends on your preference. Of the two procedures, the tummy tuck will will be the longer and more intense recovery. It’s also most likely the procedure that’s going to have the greatest impact. My personal view is that Liposuction of the abdomen creates scar tissue that reduces the pliability or stretchiness of the skin and fat layer, and this can be disadvantageous for doing a tummy tuck. Most plastic surgeons will ask patients to wait at least six months after liposuction before doing a full tummy tuck. There is also going to be a time to wait if the tummy tuck is done first. In the end, perhaps what’s even more important than which procedure is done first is provider selection. You may want to choose different providers for each of the procedures, depending on what you find in regards to skill and experience. The ability to deliver, consistent quality outcomes for both tummy tucks, and the BBL will vary significantly, depending on who you choose. This is especially true for the BBL procedure. Delivering consistent quality. Liposuction and fat. Transfer result is more difficult than most people realize, and the number of plastic surgeons of mastered. These procedures are in a small minority. To find the right providers I suggest having multiple in person consultations with plastic surgeons in your community. During each consultation, ask each provider to open up their portfolio and show you their entire collection of before, and after pictures of previous patients with similar characteristics to your own for each of the procedures, you’re interested in. An experienced provider should have no difficulty showing you the before and after pictures of at least 50 previous patients. Being shown handful of preselected images, representing the best results of a providers career is insufficient to get a clear understanding of what average results look like in the hands of each provider or how many of these procedures they’ve actually performed. When it comes to fat transfer results, recognize the early results look very different than final long-term outcomes and you should always verify the timeframe of when after pictures were taken in relationship to the date of the procedure. That transfer after pictures should always be taken at least 3 to 6 months from the date of the procedure. There’s no correct number of consultations needed to find the right provider. The more consultations you have the more likely you are to find the best providers. Considering how much variation there is in skills and experience, especially regarding Liposuction and fat transfer I recommend patients consider having at least five consultations before scheduling permanent irreversible Body contouring procedures. During each consultation, you can ask each provider about their preference, and regarding which procedure to do first and why. When, in doubt, slow down and schedule more consultations. I cannot emphasize enough the importance of provider selection. Do not assume because somebody’s board-certified, has years of experience, or an overall good reputation that they mastered anyone single procedure. Best, Mats Hagstrom, MD
