Thank you for your question. Sorry to hear that you have dry eyes, however the good news is that dry eyes would not be an contraindication of a face lift. Most commonly used facelift techniques would not change the position of your eyelids nor exacerbate your dry eyes. Just to be on the safe side please discuss it in more detail with a facelift expert during your consultation.
While a traditional facelift should not impact your dry eyes, it is recommended you relay this information to your treating provider so that measures can be taken to ensure no additional issues arise following surgery.
A facelift should have no impact on your dry eyes. Dry eye is not a contraindication to a facelift, just be careful if you will be doing surgery on the eyes.
A standard facelift should not exacerbate dry eye. However if you get an eyelid lift that could lead to a dry eye or make preexisting dry eye worse. Facelift by itself (Not along with the eyelid surgery) should be safe for you.
Having a facelift should not effect your dry eyes. You will likely need to continue using your drops. If you decided to have eyelid surgery on top of a facelift, this could cause come increased irritation of your eyes initially. We would provide you with ointment and drops to help with this. Facelift alone usually does not cause changes in dry eyes.
A facelift should not effect your dry eyes as long as you do not have eyelid surgery with the facelift. When we use the term facelift we are usually talking about a lower face and neck lift. Some people use the term upper facelift to describe a brow lift, but eyelid surgery is not a facelift. In patients with dry eyes we need to be very careful with eyelid surgery not to interfere with the normal function of the eyelids so as not to make the dry eyes worse. If you are contemplating eyelid surgery I would recommend a consultation with an oculoplastic surgeon (opthalmologist who specializes in eyelid surgery) to assess the appropriateness of the procedure and give you the best chance of success.
Sometimes during surgery, the eyes are left open. It is important to tell your surgeon this so that they leave the eyes closed as well as use lubricating eyedrops during surgery.
A facelift procedure will not affect dry eyes. It's important to be very conservative with upper blepharoplasty when patients have dry eyes.
A Face-lift has no effect on your dry eye syndrome. If eyelid surgery is scheduled in combination with face lift then should consult your ophthalmologist first if any extra mrsusres might needed.
Facelift surgery itself does not involve the eye regions and therefore does not impact dry eyes. With that being said, it is not uncommon for facelift patients to consider adding other simultaneous facial surgery such as blepharoplasty as additional procedures can help enhance the effect of facelift surgery. With a high-SMAS facelift technique, the surgeon is also lifting the mid-face which can help to increase support to the lower eyelid area and decrease the downward drag on the lower lid which can be a cause of drying in some patients. This type of lifting will often change the appearance and the surgical planning for the lower eyelids. Some patients can have a lot of hollowness or a “tear tough” deficiency that is often better corrected with autologous fat grafting which has an added benefit of adding additional support to the lower eyelid. There are many causes of dry eyes and many patients can still have successful facelift surgery as long as the eye dryness concerns have been a part of the surgical planning. It is best to consult a surgeon to determine if you are a candidate for surgery or which techniques are best suited for your specific needs and concerns.
