Does this look normal after .6ml of Juvederm in the top lip and .2ml in the bottom? (photos)

Yes, this can be typical with needle injections. There can be some swelling and/or lumps after lip injections which can last 1-2 weeks. You can apply firm pressure between two fingers on the lips for a few days, for 5 mins a time, in order to help decrease swelling and even out the lumps. If you're unhappy with your final results you can have it reversed with hyaluronidase and try a different technique next time. Best, Dr. Emer

Thank you for sharing your question and photographs.  Due to the thin nature of the tissues of the lips they are prone to swelling.  Unfortunately you had some bleeding as a result of your lip injections which has magnified the typical swelling of filler placement.  This will resolve spontaneously but may take 2-3 weeks for complete resolution.  I would recommend cold compresses to your lips, sleeping with your head slightly elevated, and using oral/topical arnica and bromelain to help speed your healing.  Hope this helps.

Thank you for your question and for submitting your photos.  The lips are a particularly sensitive area, and are prone to swelling and bruising that can last up to 2 weeks after filler injections.  Moreover, the Juvederm itself can feel hard or lumpy immediately after injection - typically, as the Juvederm absorbs water, it softens and blends into the skin.  That said, you do appear to have a little more bruising than I typically anticipate with lip filler injections.  Gently applying ice or cool compresses to your lips may help the swelling resolve sooner.  It may be worthwhile to follow-up with your injector to discuss your concerns, as certain lasers can help bruising fade faster.  If in two weeks you are still noticing swelling or lumpiness, your injector may be able to gently massage out any remaining lumps, or dissolve them with hyaluronidase.  Best of luck!

Dear emmaleeilar:Swelling after lip filling is not uncommon and usually subsides within 1-2 weeks.  Please follow up with your injector 2 weeks after filling.  Best wishes.

Lip
augmentation is a procedure where filler is injected into the lips to increase
volume and enhance the borders of the lips. In general the goal is to create a lower lip that is bigger than the upper lip. be aware: Just by poking the lips with the
needle causes swelling.
The
reactive swelling goes down in the first 2 days. Then it takes 2 weeks for the
filler to absorb water and reach your final result. Bruising may delay the
result further. Before that point, it's too early to evaluate your
outcome and you end up chasing your tail by touching up prematurely. You have a fair amount bruising, which is the likely cause of the extra swelling.
Patience
is virtue. Don't rush into adding more filler or dissolving with hyaluronidase.
Make sure you follow-up with your doctor so they can track your progress to a
safe and happy result. Safety comes first. 

Direct injections can always result in bruising.  The use of cannulas can decrease the bruising and subsequent swelling.

In my opinion the reason you have this amount of swelling is not from the juvederm, it's from the needle. I used to see bruising  like this frequently when I used needles.  Since I switched to using cannulas  a few years ago I have not seen ANY such bruising as I did before. Some pts swell, but it's less than you demonstrate and without the bruising. I would seek out someone who uses cannulas.It is a remarkable difference.

It is important to understand that it is an aesthetic fact that the lower lip is bigger or fuller than the upper lip and that disproportion must be maintained. This, a majority of the time the upper and lower lip should be injected with the same amount of filler unless the upper lip is extremely thin in which case more filler may be placed in the upper lip compared to the lower.  After your injection, your upper lip looks bigger than the lower which is considered an unnatural appearance.  Other than that, the bruising and swelling is something that occasionally occurs but should resolve within a week.  Use of lots of ice immediately after the injection will usually discourage that occurrence.  In the future you should insist on keeping the lower lip fuller than the upper.
