I have an excess of tissue/fat on the pad of my chin. I'm a thin person, and it's a genetic trait in my family. I'm trying to avoid going under the knife, so I was wondering if Kybella could be a solution to this? Also, how common is nerve damage caused by Kybella?

Answer: Kybella treatment Thank you for your question Gorbal. Kybella is the first and thus-far only FDA-approved non-surgical injectable treatment for the double chin. It is difficult to make an assessment without photographs. The double chin can be due to age, weight gain, or genetics. Kybella can address this concern. Nerve damage in the area leads to a temporary asymmetric smile. The median duration of this side effect in the pivotal studies was approximately six weeks. It is very rare and I have not seen it in my patients. Please consult with a doctor for specific recommendations. Good luck!

Answer: Kybella - who benefits, and how safe is it? Kybella is a great treatment option for those with excess fat in the submental (chin) area. It's important to note that this isn't a good option for those who simply have skin laxity (aka, "extra skin") in that area. In the hands of a skilled injector, Kybella is a safe and effective treatment. Damage to major nerves is extremely uncommon with this treatment.
