Using more than 2 vials of kybella per treatment?

Thank you for your question.  I have performing Kybella treatments since it came out being one of the National Instructors for injection.  The amount of Kybella depends on the AREA that is being treated.  For instance, a larger area will require more product.  If you have a normal width to the neck and simply have fullness, then I rarely will use more than 2 vials per treatment.  This equates to 20 dots.  As you progress in the treatments, you should require less dots and subsequently less product.  I do not however, recommend undergoing treatments with several other modalities (thermal, ultherapy etc) until you have utilized this treatment to its fullest.  Please consult with a double board certified Facial Plastic and Reconstructive surgeon who specializes only in the Face.  I hope this helps and clarifies a few things.

Two to three vials per Kybella treatment is pretty standard. You want to ensure you use enough to have a meaningful result, otherwise it is not worth the time or money. Though I would need to see you in person in order to verify how many vials would be best for you, it doesn't sound like you are getting an unusual recommendation. Still, you will probably need more than one session of Kybella. It is not an instant treatment. Consulting more than one board-certified dermatologist in person will allow you get more specific answers to your question and find someone whose results inspire confidence.

The amount of Kybella used on a patient per treatment will vary based on the condition (e.g. amount of fat) and anatomy of each individual patient.  The average amount of Kybella that I use in a single treatment is usually around 2 vials.  This will change slightly based on the surface area of the targeted fat as well as any anatomic variations that will exist between patients.  Be sure that you are seeing a board certified core physician for treatment -- facial plastic surgeon, plastic surgeon, or dermatologist as we have superior knowledge of the anatomy and can offer better results.

Kybella sometimes needs multiple rounds of treatment. Typically 2-3 vials per treatment is appropriate. We use a grid technique to help assess coverage of treatment area.

So it is likely that 3 vials are per session.  I question if kybella is best for you.  I think you will find like most Kybella patients that you need 6 sessions of treatment over 6 months.  Even then it is likely that you will not be satisfied with the result. For these reasons, you will find this a very expensive service with no guarantee of efficacy.  Combine this with the every unpleasant side effects of swelling, bruising, and numbness.  I encourage you to investigate neck liposuction.  With a minimally invasive you are much more likely to accomplish what your are looking for possibly for significantly less money and certainly much more quickly.

This is difficult to answer without pictures. The number of vials needed varies with the individual and depends on the number of dots in the grid and how large your neck is. To improve Kybella results, I recommend a combination approach with thermage, ultherapy, exilis. VASER liposuction in combination with ThermiRF is an alternative for contouring the chin, if you're a candidate. I have felt that using the 3 vials in patients that are in between 2 and 3 gives them the best overall results and gets them there a little faster. nI think it is reasonable and you should probably follow your doctor's recommendations. Best wishes, Dr. ALDO

The number of vials needed for a Kybella treatment is determined by the size of the area to be treated.  An examination is needed to determine exactly how many vials would be needed for each treatment.  I would say in most cases, the range is from 2-3 vials per treatment.  Sometimes, as the treatment sessions progress, fewer vials are needed for the later treatments.  

Three vials per treatment of Kybella is not unusual. However, I don't ever use more than 2 CC as I find that more than that may cause excessive swelling. Even though you don't have much submental fat, only about 20% to 30% can be removed at a time no matter how many vials are used, so you will probably need more than one treatment session. If you are comfortable with this dermatologist, you can discuss your concerns about getting a third vial. If it's just a matter of cost, you may be able to work out a payment plan. We are always happy to work with our patients to get them the best results in a way that is comfortable and do-able for them.

Without seeing you in person, impossible to say how many vials you would need, but 2-3 vials of Kybella per treatment is the norm. Hope this helps.
