Is this type of bruising normal for Kybella? (photos)

I'm sorry to see that you have concern about the bruising after Kybella, but bruising is very common after this procedure no matter how skilled the injector.  Although your bruise is a little worse than most that I see, I do not think you should be alarmed that anything is going wrong.  Apply ice and be patient.  It should resolve on it's own over the next week.  Best of luck,  Dr. Giordano

situation. Kybella is the first and thus-far only FDA-approved non-surgical
injectable treatment for the double chin. With any injection bruising is possible and usually last 1-2 weeks. In our office we treat bruises with a laser as soon as the next day. This makes the bruise resolve faster. We have found that some people do not see results until after the second treatment. For this reason I recommend that my patients start with at least two treatments. We have also found that waiting longer between treatments provides better results. Unfortunately, bruising is commonly with any injectable treatment including Kybella. I do agree that you have more bruising then I would normally expect but every patient is different in how they respond to the injections. In my experience, most patients required 2-3 treatment sessions with 2-3 vials per treatment session. It can take 4-6 weeks after your last treatment to see the end result. I would followup with your injector to discuss your concerns and to review your photos. 

Brusising is common with any injectable. Although yours looks worse than the norm, every patient is different. In terms of your results, it takes anywhere from 6-10 weeks. It's possible that you will need another treatment. It really depends on the amount of fat that needs to be dissolved. Have your injector show you your "before" photos. My guess is that there has been more improvement than you realize. 

Thank you for your question and for sharing your photos.  Unfortunately, there is a risk of bruising with every cosmetic injection.  Kybella often involves 20-40 individual injections in a single session, and so bruising is not uncommon after treatment.  It's difficult to predict who will bruise, and where they will bruise with a treatment.  That said, you appear to have a little more bruising than I usually see after Kybella.  It may be worthwhile to follow-up with your injector to discuss your concerns - sometimes, lasers can be used to help bruises fade much faster.
In general I find that results from Kybella take at least 6-8 weeks to become visible, and continue to improve up to 10-12 weeks out.  Best of luck!  

Almost 100% of patients who have had Kybella or Belkyra (in Australia and Canada that is the name), will have bruising, however the severity is a little bit too much and too focal. I normally combine my injections with a course of V BEAM laser treatments to decrease bruising, as laser can reduce the bruise markedly.
