Kybella dosage and treatment?

Having used Kybella for over 9 years, starting with the initial clinical trials in 2008, I can tell you that  this is not going to be sufficient.  Also, three vials is particularly brutal and will likely cause you significant down time and swelling.In my practice I usually aim for no more than 2 vials if possible (and preferably one vial). If you need 3 vials, you are likely a better candidate for CoolMINI or SmartLipo as the cost for 3 vials is huge and the likelihood is that you will need more like 5 or 6 treatments, which will further extend and increase the costs over time.Kybella is great but not all people are great candidates for it.  The good news is that we have many other great treatments and you should probably seek a second opinion as it appears that you are being treated outside of 'best practices' and may not be going somewhere that has access to all the options available.  Best wishes!

Thanks for your question. The number of vials ultimately depends on the surface area in which the fat occupies your chin. Thus, larger people with a more diffusely spread out area of fat will need more vials. Typically, a grid with markers spaced out in 1 x 1 cm markings is placed on the skin and number of marks within the area to be injected is counted. The issue with the number of treatments required is difficult and depends on many things including the amount of fat present as well as certain qualities of the fat. Bottom line, some folks tends to have more resistant fat and thus require more treatments to achieve the effect. Certainly, the more fat present, meaning the more vials injected, equates to more swelling lasting longer.

It is difficult to determine the amount of vials that are necessary in your case without an exam, however, I usually inject a minimum of 2 vials and recommend 2 treatments. I have injected a few patients with minimal submental fullness with only one vial. It really depends how much fullness and your expectations. You can begin with one treatment and see if you are happy with the results. Good luck

Ytchen,I recommend 2 vials and 2 treatments rather than 3 vials and 1 treatment.  And yes, 3 vials increases swelling and soreness, so there's more downtime and not necessarily a better or faster result.Good luck!

Thanks for your question.I have  seen some nice results after one treatment, but the results are improved after the second treatment 6 to 8 weeks later. Two to three vials is appropriate. I doubt you'll be completely satisfied after just one treatment, but since your physician has examined you there's no way to know for sure. Best wishes, Dr. ALDO

the amount of kybella needed depends on the number of dots in the grid and how large your neck is.  There is no minimum.  Best, Dr. Emer.

Although we see improvement usually in our NYC practice with Kybella after the first treatment, the average neck needs three treatments or more. The methodology of peforming Kybella is well-worked out by the company and there is a grid that is applied to the patient's neck determining the number of insertion sites needed. Depending on the patient's shape and breadth of the involvement on their neck, the number of insertion sites, and therefore the number of vials of Kybella needed, vary. It would be very rare to only need one vial. I find that most patients need 2 to 4 vials per treatment, although the numbers of vials used may lessen in subsequent treatments as some fat is reduced.  Usually the treatments are done every 5 to 6 weeks apart.

Without any pictures it is extremely difficult to answer this question.  I will say that most patients do require more than one session to reach their desired goal.   The complaints with Kybella range from mild swelling to severe swelling with pain.  The pros of kybella is that it is non invasive but the down side is that you will likely need more than one treatment.  Neck contouring is very minimally invasive and can be performed in less than 30-40 mins with only one healing period.  Most patient see results by the end of the first week and it continues to get better as time goes on.  I have many patients who LOVE neck lipo/contouring because the jaw lines can really be defined.
Speak with someone who performs both kybella and neck lipo and see which is better for you!  There is no "one size fits all"

Kybella is not as magical as it sounds in those clever Kybella tv ads.  Overall it is a very expensive, and unpleasant service that really does do something.  However, that something is more reliably delivered with a minimally invasive liposuction.  Don't kid yourself that a single Kybella treatment will accomplish your goal.  You will be disappointed.  Unless you are truly opposed to neck liposuction, this is a much better away to accomplish your goal.

We typically will do up to 2 vials in one sessions.  A second session may be required in 2 months as a follow up treatment.  This approach is beneficial for those who only have mild/moderate chin fullness, and wish to avoid surgery.
However, anyone who needs more than this will likely be happier with a liposuction procedure for under the neck.  This will provide much faster results when the fat pad is more extensive and generally makes for a much happier client.  We have had a lot of success with this approach.
