I have a indent in the middle of the tip of my nose. Is this a birth defect? (photo)

What is this and is it a birth defect? Is there a way to fix?The only other person that has it very slightly is my oldest sister but you can't see it. I'm scared my daughter will get this as well. Is thier a way to fix this and what is it?

This is not necessarily a birth defect; rather, it is a divergence or separation of the two cartilages that normally come together to form the tip of your nose. This is an easily correctible issue with a rhinoplasty procedure where the division or separation between the two cartilages is made less obvious. Other features of your nose can also be addressed as well if this bothers you. Good luck in your area.

No it's not a defect- it is your specific cartilage condition and relationships. If you wish to improve your nose you will need a Rhinoplasty by an experienced Board  Certified PS with extensive experience in Rhinoplasty who will utilize the closed or internal incision technique. In my opinion, there is no need for an open Rhinoplasty in your case. Hope this helps

The indent you see is the normal space between the two C-shaped cartilages that shape your nose. Everyone has the space but it is more visible in some . It is not a birth defect. If you don't like it injectable fillers could help hide it.

You have a classic bifid nasal tip. This is where the lower alar cartilages are separated and s skin crease or groove develops between them. This can be repaired through a tip rhinoplasty where the cartilages are sutured together.

You do not have a congenital deformity of the nose, but rather a variation of normal. This cleft of the columella is highlighting the space between your lower lateral cartilages, which are normal structures. This can be fixed with rhinoplasty through small incisions inside the nose. We call this a "bifid tip" and it is a normal variant, not a defect. Like many variances in physical appearance, if it is distracting to you, you can do something about it. Dermal fillers are the easiest fix -- they are safe but temporary.
