I originally had my right breast bigger than my left. The surgeon told me she was going to extract some of the mammary tissue from the larger one so they could be symmetrical. (I got a lift and 295 cc silicone implants.) After the surgery, my larger breast (the one she took tissue out of) looks smaller and dropped faster Now the smaller one is larger, and the larger one is smaller. Is this due to swelling, or did the surgeon take too much tissue out?

Answer: Breast surgery outcome All women have a breast asymmetry. To make an assessment regarding the outcome of a plastic surgery procedure we always need to see a complete set of before and after pictures. If you don’t have before and after pictures, then ask your surgeon to forward the pictures they took. Try reposting with before and after pictures if you want us to make an assessment regarding the outcome of your procedure. Your breast look symmetrical to me, and certainly more symmetrical than most women’s breast are. Most women have the left breast, sitting higher on the chest wall than the right. This is in fact, true for both men and women. If the nipple is placed correctly in the center of the breast, and this means that for most women, the left nipple should sit slightly higher on the chest than the right side, because the left breast sits higher on the chest wall. The nipple should be placed at the center of the breast, regardless of what the other side looks like. Plastic surgeons cannot move on the breast on the chest wall. Best, Mats Hagstrom, MD
