I'm going to get lipo of the mid section (flanks, back, abs!). Should I buy chucks an sanitary napkins for blood leakage?

Yes, I think that it is a good idea to have some type of absorbent pads for post-op care. You may have bloody drainage for up to 24 hours, so these pads may need to be changed. I know Dr Tehrani, and you are in very good hands! Good Luck!

It is best to follow your primary medical doctor's recommnedations. Chucks are always helpful to protect linens during the first few days of drainage. Wear loose, comorftable, dark (and old) clothing as well.

Thank you for the question. This is a very good idea. I tend to leave the incisions open and therefore tell my patients to place plastic garbage bags and towels over their mattress as well to avoid getting it wet. This drainage will usually last about 2 to 3 days. I would also suggest you follow your PCP's recommendation of a tetanus update prior to your surgery. I hope this helps. Best wishes.

 Everything you describe are good ideas.If you are not current on your tetanus shot then having a tetanus booster is a good idea. We use depends  pads. They work great.  Expect losing and seepage.I highly recommend you have some hydrogen peroxide at home.It works great to clean up any blood stains. There are a few factors that make a big difference in how much fluid someone leaks after liposuction.One is if the incisions are sutured closed. The second one is if the absorbent pads placed over the incisions are sealed with tape. I am personally prefer to leave incisions open. I also avoid using any type of skin adhesives such as medical tape. That means my patients experience more drainage.By using sick absorbent pads dinner while placed under the compression garments this is usually not too much of a problem. I tell my patients to lay old towels over nice bedding and if they are really draining a lot to place garbage bags under the towels.  Getting chucks is the best idea.Fluid draining typically stops in a few days. Ideally your plastic surgeon would have gone over these things prior to the surgery or at least included them in postop instructions. Best,Mats Hagstrom M.D.
