Burning after lipo. Why is this?

I had Lipo almost 6 weeks ago ( I did love handles stomachs an back ) why? Does my sides feel like they are on fire!

This is normal during the healing phase especially if a laser or ultrasound device were used.  Oral gabapentin can help. Please speak to your physician.  This will take 6-12 months to resolve.  Best, Dr. Emer.

What your liposuction assisted by a laser or ultrasound? These techniques can trigger a peripheral nerve pain syndrome described is intense burning in the skin. There are medications that can help this.

This can happen due to disruption of the nerves. The pain typically resolves but can take awhile. Best to discuss with your operating surgeon so he or she can monitor your progress. Good luck!

It is not unusual to still feel the effects of liposuction six weeks after surgery. Nerve endings are still raw and healing is not complete. Stay in touch with your surgeon and you should get better with time. Good luck!

It is normal to have pain and discomfort and swelling that changes as healing progresses. If it does not improve make sure to mention it to your plastic surgeon.

Thanks for your question.What you are experiencing is totally normal.  The burning sensation are the nerves most commonly of your sides and back awakening and healing.  The pain may last several weeks to months depending on the patient and age (older patients 40+ experienced a prolonged burning sensation).  It always goes away with time.  Rarely do pain medications relieve the pain.  Some of my patients rub/massage the areas and use lotion or even Biofreeze or icyhot over the counter remedies.Best of luck and hope it resolves quickly.Dr. T
