I first investigated non-surgical rhinoplasty. It was at this time it was identified I had a deviated septum. Therefore, I investigated a correction of deviated septum with my medical provider and now am planning for a septoplasty. However, I know it will not change the actual shape or look of my nose. Breathing through my nose is the priority, but I wanted to know the opinion of other Dr.'s if I should actually consider rhinoplasty? I have a small hump on my nose and its downturned.

Answer: Septoplasty with rhinoplasty Thank you for taking the time to share your question and photos. The best option for you is to find a surgeon that is board certified in both facial plastic surgery and otolaryngology in order to properly address your aesthetic and functional needs. There are many advantages to doing rhinoplasty at the same time as septoplasty, including combining the downtime, possible cost reduction of the operating room fees, and being able to use grafts from the septum during rhinoplasty. The enhancement you are looking for can potentially be addressed with a closed scarless rhinoplasty. In the hands of a properly experienced surgeon, this technique is beneficial because of the avoidance of a scar on the outside of the nose, much more rapid and comfortable recovery compared to an ‘open’ rhinoplasty, and less disruption of the nasal tissues. Additionally, if you have nasal breathing issues, you may be able to use your health insurance to offset a significant portion of the cost. Good luck! Behrad Brad Aynehchi, MD

Answer: Septoplasty It’s entirely up to you if you want cosmetic changes as well as correction of breathing problems. However, don’t take it for granted that the surgeon who dies the septoplasty is also experienced with cosmetic rhinoplasty. Make sure you go to someone who dies both.
