Who is at risk of pollybeak deformity after rhinoplasty and when does it form?

How to prevent a pollybeak deformity post op?  When does it form post op, (day after, 1week, 2 months, etc)? What are the remedies for it? Will this deformity be there forever?

Hello, first of all thank you for your question.Pollybeak deformity is related to the mistake of the surgical technique. Therefore, it has nothing to do with the structure of your nose. If your doctor knows the techniques for this, you shouldn't have a problem with this. If you have had such a situation, it will not resolve on its own, it requires a revision surgery. A polly beak deformity occurs because the bridge is not lowered enough relative to the tip and just above it. Surgeons can do one of two things to avoid or treat it. The simple thing is to make sure the bridge is sufficiently lowered. The other option is to make the tip stick out further by using a graft. Depending on the nature and cause if the polly beak there are different ways to correct it. Some are quite simple. Others are more involved.

The poly deformity can because from residual cartilage your surgeon leaves behind, or from swelling and edema from thick skin in the supra-area of the nose. If there's excess cartilage present, this must be surgically removed with a revision rhinoplasty. Steroid shots are performed for patients who have thick skin to prevent the polybeak deformity.  Polybeak usually takes a month or two to develop and that's why the steroid shots are extremely important to prevent that from occurring
